Or you can group them both the same, because they're both equally awful.

This thread is more of a deflection. It's like liberals can't just admit the obvious truth that Obama is the worst president in modern history and leave it at that. They gotta bring Bush into the confession to make them feel better.

It's not a deflection when it's in the title of the thread.

re: Bush 43 ruined it for Repubs...Obama the same for the Dems...

quote:

The larger the mob, the harder the test. In small areas, before small electorates, a first-rate man occasionally fights his way through, carrying even the mob with him by force of his personality. But when the field is nationwide, and the fight must be waged chiefly at second and third hand, and the force of personality cannot so readily make itself felt, then all the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre—the man who can most easily adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum.

The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

H. L. Mencken 1920

Will Americans finally pull their heads out of their (large) asses and finally vote for someone who can maybe do some good for the country?

I'd like to point out a couple of problems with the OP.

1)It seems to belie the real problem I see in politics and that is this odd belief that we elect a king.

2)We get exactly the government we are actually ASKING for. When polled, Americans reliably want "more" spent on a long laundry list of things and then reliably don't want a dime in extra taxes on themselves.

We vote asking for the impossible and as such, we get people promising the impossible. It really is almost hard to blame the elected people for doing pretty much what got them elected.

Like who? Disney?Time Warner?Comcast? News Corp?
You think they're all controlling the evening news from their corporate offices and suppling them with the evening talking points? And they're all on the same page?

So MSNBC and Fox News both answer to the corporate profit war
profiteers?

Awesome! Thanks for the information!

What about the Daily Kos?Media Matters?Move-On?

5 media companies essentially own everything that is on the tv, radio, newsprint, and popular entertainment (movies, music).

They own or directly benefit from all the products advertised on their mediums.

If you don't think there isn't a problem and avenue for abuse with that kind of concentration of power I don't know what to tell ya.

I tell people this all the time.

People love to rail at "the government" as if it falls out of the sky.

We ask for this shite. I rail against what those in power are doing but when I do, I'm really railing against the American people because it's those dumb fricks who keep going......."oooooh, look....he's offering us another shiny thing and telling us other people(rich) are going to pay for it". YAY!!!!!

The difference is that Bush 43 ruined it for repubs by being too liberal with his extra spending;

but Obama didn't ruin it by being too conservative. He also was too liberal.

Amen! People don't want politicians who will level with them, they want to be lied to. However, I have to admit that I really did believe W when he said he was going to have a humble foreign policy and I really did believe Obama when he said he would close Guantanimo Bay, because those things weren't impossible for them to do.

Jazzy Jeff: Let's list a few facts to gauge your credibility around here.

- You now live, and have lived, in Japan. You have lived, worked and raised a Japanese family in Japan. How many years has it been now? 20 years - since you have lived in the USA?

- You really dislike the USA and the US electorate. With many posts, you have called all American women "fat".

So, you are prejudiced against the USA and its people and you have lived in a foreign country for years.

I would think that you are much better situated to analyze Japanese politics, culture and people. I would be interested to hear your views on those topics.

My own personal interest in understanding your bigoted views with regard to the USA is zero.

The opinions/news sources are FAR more diverse today than 20,30,40 years ago. That's a good thing, right? Do you want to go back to good old days of 3 TV networks and evening news being the only (TV) source for news? We also have the internet where you can get all the anti corp anti war machine drivel you can digest.

Please give me examples of this corporate collusion and
groupthink...

Sorry,we are FAR better off information wise (for those who choose to look) than we've ever been...

GW Bush let himself get bullied into a meaningless war that cost the lives of 3000 American soldiers and severely wounded several times more than that. And cost the country trillions. Oh and sat by while the economy sunk to the lowest since the great depression.

I'm pretty sure that's worse than Obamacare.

I think they've both done shite jobs. Just don't be narrowminded about it.

It's as if people think Obama just pulled the ACA out of his ass. Healthcare reform was one of the biggest issues in the 2008 campaign.

Not to mention the biggest terror attack in US history happened on his watch.

Obama would have been impeached by now if it happened under him. Hell just look at the reaction from the right over Benghazi
