I'm not saying Vasquez is as talented. But if you just want a 3rd guard/back-up SF to play 20ish minutes a game and give a boost to the 2nd unit, then they should have just kept Vasquez and got pretty much the same production. If you can honestly look at Vasquez vs. Evans numbers this year and see a big difference, then you are seeing something I'm not..

I think you have to go advanced and look at the meaningful numbers . . . and eyeball results.

I'm not a big metrics guy, so you tell me. Is that a big difference so far? It seems pretty even to me..

I doubt anyone really believed that. Vasquez, Jack...they are decent backups. Jack had his career year after he left, but neither was a player here when the other team clamped down on the D in the last 4 minutes.

Dude Tyreke eviscerated the Pistons on one ankle on Wednesday. When he's not limping, and feeling that touch the guy is unstoppable. I have literally seen nobody able to stop Tyreke's penetration this year. And I've watched every single game start to finish, unlike you plebian. It's only when fortune betrays him and the easy ones continuously rim out that he looks foolish, which he's not because I would take a layup over a 18 footer ten times out of ten. Tyreke's impact is very comparable to GVs, but Tyreke can be unstoppable, whereas GV was never anything more than a setup man.

Not massively. I ran another where I looked at just more recent games and it was a bit more favorable for Reke. It's such a small sample size as is and he was hurt for the first portion of the season. I would like to see it play out over the year or at least till the break.

The biggest thing was Gravy being in the minus in net efficiency, meaning he gives up more than he scores. But neither has been playin good D. Greivis has a much better asst/TO ratio and he's been a far more efficient shooter so far. So it's kinda a wash at this point.

GV couldn't guard my homeless Uncle in a wheelchair. I loved the dude but he was a defensive negative, who made Russell Westbrook look like Godzilla. GV's length would frustrate the Kyle Lowrys and Kemba Walkers of the world, but he was no savant.

While I'd love for him to be running the second team and setting the table like a maidservant for Jason Smith every pick and roll, he's worth so much more than that. Plus if you watched ANY game last year, you'd know that Robin Lopez was about as much a fit here as skinny jeans on Charles Barkley.

Plus Dell did something verrrrrrrrry few GMs are risky enough to do. He traded an asset at his HIGHEST value. Yeah right, GV was going to come back and lead the league in assists again. And he got an extremely diverse, talented player for him, who still has a lot of room for growth. frick the haters, GV is long gone

Vasquez was bad. His defense was non-existent. Because of his lack of speed, the offense took an eternity to get in motion. Having said that, the guy played hard, probably to the max of his ability.

I just don't agree with this. It was a horrible trade IMO. He gave away Vasquez and Lopez just to make salary cap room and to give Evans a huge contract. I'd have rather kept those two instead..

Vasquez hasn't done shite so far this year. He's a classic good stats bad team guy. Not to mention Evans makes Gordon expendable if Gordon keeps play decently and we get a good offer for him

re: Do you idiots still think Greivis Vasquez is better than Jrue Holiday?

long-term, what does keeping GV and lopez do?

lopez would help, but he wasn't exactly a defensive force or anything. he wouldn't cure our ills

i'd love it if we could magically get him back at that salary, but that salary got in the way of improving our team

GV would be a backup pg and not worth his salary at all, especially if we consider roberts' ability/salary

last offseason built up the backbone of our roster. this almost assuredly is not the final step

evans had a rough start, but he's giving us what we need: a bench scorer and a possible replacement for gordon IF we can move him for that big (one that will almost certainly be better than lopez)

re: Do you idiots still think Greivis Vasquez is better than Jrue Holiday?

If they trade Gordon, all bets are off and I'll concede that it was a possible good signing/trade. Although, in the grand scheme, Gordon is a much better fit next to Holiday. I've wanted Gordon gone since they got him. But it would take a huge offer for me to want to trade him now. He's actually starting to contribute and I like him as the 3rd or 4th scorer (behind Davis, Anderson and Holiday). Although he is still massively overpaid.

Is Evans a good fit next to Holiday? He is much more of a PG than SG, so it pushes Holiday off the ball. Which could work at times. I'd just rather the ball in Holidays hands. But it could work..

As of right now, I just see Evans as a 3rd guard/back-up SF that can light it up at times. He has great talent and he is way overqualified to be relegated to that role. For that type of role, Vasquez could have done something similar for way less money...

Well we basically got Evans to be our Manu Ginobili, and ginobili averaged just under 11 milion a year from 2005-6 to 2012-13. Whether or not he ever manages make the same sort of impact as ginobili remains to be seen, but that's the hope

1) I really think trading Gordon is part of the plan unless they think the 3 guard thing not only can work, but can work in the playoffs.

2) Tyreke has provided much more than "just a 3rd guard/back-up SF". Pretty much every game he's played well we've won in true 6th man fashion. I'm not saying Vasquez couldn't be a 6th man, just not as good and this team would probably have much fewer wins. Evans also puts a lot more pressure opposing defense and gets to the line twice as often per 36 as Vasquez. Not only does that help get opposing bigs in foul trouble, it gets you closer to the penalty leading to easy offense. I've always felt Vasquez would get Jarrett Jack money which means about $6 per year, so while that's not super expensive, he won't be a value player much longer.

I hope Dell sticks with this core for the entire season. There is reason to believe that the current guard rotation's slashing style can do some serious damage in the playoffs because of the foul trouble they could cause for opposing front courts.
