Unfortunate news for the SLA area and hopefully not a harbinger of more to come. SIAP.

Bad news. The only way this makes sense is if Shell is really in trouble.

There are only two viable GTL process designs in the world. Shell and Sasol each have proprietary and patented technologies. So Shell does not have to pay royalties as does everyone else save Sasol. If they still can't afford it, it must be bad.

Unfortunately falling oil prices make these less economical. These make money with a wide split between crude and nat gas prices.

Shell isn't in trouble in anyway.

Agree shell not in trouble.

I think they realize we are probably going to be closer to $70/bbl oil and $5 natural gas long term than we are to $100/bbl oil and $3.50 natural gas.

Shell has been cancelling projects lately. I think it has more to do with Where the company thinks the price of energy is headed.

I think it was either this GTL plant or the big ethane cracker up in PA. The cracker won.

my GTLS stock is taking a beating. luckily have small position. gotta decide whether to average down. made a huge return (%-wise, not claiming to be an OT-baller) on LNG so decided to take profits and diversify within the sector. brutality the past few weeks.

Jindal has a scrap book full of announcements and photo ops of big job creating projects throughout the state that never came to fruition.

this was not Jindal's fault. Shell decided not to pursue this project at all...happens all the time in big oil

Thank goodness we didn't get that steel mill KBB and Jindal went after. Thyssen has already sold it and the number of jobs it was to produced never got to the numbers the economic development types claimed.

Oh I would have loved to have the facility here but I did want all the welfare KBB and Jindal were proposing for them in out and out subsidies.

You talking about the Franklin project in the Marcellus shale?

They also have the Carmon Creek project going in Alberta

That's the one. They haven't formally committed to it, but I think it's a go. It's absolutely critical infrastructure for the region and if Shell doesn't build it someone else will.

I talked to a buddy of mine last week that works for the technology office for The Americas. That's who told me the GTL project was cancelled and Franklin is a go

I saw somewhere that cost on the GTL plant went from 12.5-20 billion. That will make you rethink things also...
