No, the grandfathered plans will see premiums blow up in order to compensate for the higher risk plans mandated by the obamacare law.

what cost $350/month with the old plans will now cost $800/ month come January 1st, in my estimate and experience with my own plan.

1) What legal authority does Obama have to do this through executive fiat?
2) You can't just conjure plans up out of thin air after they have been cancelled.

Now that responsible companies have spent untold millions of $$ and better part of a year to prepare, it's suddenly - "nevermind - go back to what you were doing!"

Of course it will be the fault of the ins companies when they say they can't do it.

Unreal.

I'd like to go back and change my answer from yesterdays "Is Obamacare the biggest legislative fail in history"

I'm going to go with "Yes"

Everyone with half a brain knows whats going to happen here (even DC). Just like they did with the "keep your plan" crap. No way the insurance companies can back-track and implement the canceled plans this late in the game. It will not only cost them too much, but they may not even have the time to do it before Jan 1.

Prices stay the same and now the insurance comp's get the blame. "We gave them the opportunity to reduce the cost on all Americans, but they refused too." The Dems will now have a scapegoat for the 2014 elections.

Gonna be tons of people calling their insurance to see if they can have their old plan back. I feel for the Customer Service Reps. I wonder how much this has cost the ins. providers to redo everything and then get told, oh, nevermind for a yr at least.

This.

I guess he's basically just playing a game of hot potato and throwing it back to the insurance companies to "fix" it with 6 weeks until the new year?

This of course is impossible to do bc 1) they don't exist 2) there is not adequate time to recreate and enroll millions of policies in time.

So it just "blame the big bad insurance companies 2.0

If a law he signed does not meet his short-term political objectives, The One can just unilaterally change the law, no questions asked?

Why do we need to keep paying for the expense of a legislative branch of government?

I think the issues is that first off, he cannot legally do this. He cannot simply tell insurance companies to ignore the law (no matter how unbelievably stupid the law is.

second, all those plans no longer exist and insurance budgets and actuaries have been set. You can't simply say "hey, nevermind" and expect things to be fixed.

This ploy only makes things more confusing and does nothing to fix the problem. In fact, it will ultimately only make it worse.

No. I'm glad for the people that will be getting their insurance back, though I doubt it's going to work as if nothing ever happened. What I'm worried about is this law in which the code is so easily changed by the President whenever he feels like it and congress, the courts or any other entity can't do shite about it. I don't see how setting these type of precedents can help in any way.

So, you have no problem with an ex post facto, line item selective veto of certain parts of laws by the president?
