The smartest thing to do is for the Republicans is to walk away from the totality of it

When the media on the left starts hollering to the Reps "okay, so show us a solution to the problem or shut up", basically what was said on Morning Joe by the female hostess, then the Reps are in a no win situation. Some degree of "solution" will have to be presented by the right or be deemed cold and callous by the left.

People will swallow that mantra hook, line and sinker just like they did with Obamacare.

The Reps better come up with something or the adjectives used by the Dems to assail the Reps will be endless by the media.

Don't they have their own version of Obamacare? I think it is sitting on Reid's desk.

McCain said last night on Great that Obamacare should be totally repealed

quote:

“The solution is, first of all, to let people keep their insurance if they want to,” he said. “Or at least reinstate them.” He continued: “Second of all, let the insurance companies give a menu of whatever they want to provide. Third of all, medical savings account. Fourth of all, medical malpractice reform. Let people go across state lines to, in order to, if they can get a better insurance policy in another state. And remove this whole tax incentive for employers to provide employees health insurance.” “That is repeal,” Van Susteren said, pointing out the obvious. “That’s exactly right,” McCain replied. “That is total repeal in every other way. Because what Obamacare is, is an experiment in social engineering — in other words, making healthy people pay more…in order to subsidize the health care for people that are older and unhealthy. That is the ultimate in social engineering.”

The Repubs are stupid. That's why I'm proud to say I'm not one of them.

There are a multitude of problems with Obamacare. Why waste time on any one component of this pos? You can put lipstick on a pig, but he's still just a bucket of bacon.

The GOP should unite to repeal Obamacare. It's not only the right thing to do, but this is the best gift that the Dems have ever given the GOP. Even better than Debbie Wasserman Shultz...lol

That's the way to win elections!

"Hey, you dumb a-holes voted for this so frick you. But seriously, vote Republican! We won't try to help you right now because we want you to feel pain but vote for us anyway!"

as opposed to passing more legislation that does nothing but add more confusion to the market without a way to actually do anything to help the problems it claims to address? what good does that do, other than lie again to the populace?

re: Repubs don't have a clue

quote:

Do they not understand it's not that simple? Contracts with providers have already been severed for the canceled policies and replaced with new contracts for the new policies. It would take months to even get the original contracts back in place. To attempt to pass a proposal that says you can keep your canceled insurance is nothing more than a "we tried to do something" feel good measure, in my opinion.

Aren't you making a whole lot of assumptions here which are not backed up by the thousands of doomsday posts by you and others on this board? We see post after post re people losing their insurance and can't afford higher policies yet you're stating as fact that people who lost their insurance have repurchased insurance. Where are all the threads saying this? Clearly they aren't getting insurance through the exchanges, at least according to you.

And are you saying its impossible to purchase a plan 6 weeks in advance? Seems a bit ridic.

What I see in this thread is the truth. A bunch of hacks using the the problems of people losing their insurance as a reason to bash the president and who are furious because McCain and others want to fix the problem.

How dare McCain attempt to alleviate a problem. How dare he take a weapon from you hacks.

Thank you for showing your true colors. It is clear who the "pure scum" and "traitors" (to use the words of CPT Bengal) are.

Personally I've been against the ACA and one reason is I think people should be able to buy their own shitty policy. Here we have a proposal to allow this and you people bitch. True colors. It's not just a cyndi Lauper song.

i don't know how many have PURCHASED new insurance yet. my plan was outlawed, but i have insurance until 12/31/13 and i haven't made a decision on what i'm going to do yet. i assume lots of others are in the same boat. that doesn't mean we have 0 information about pricing for potential plans

quote:

And are you saying its impossible to purchase a plan 6 weeks in advance? Seems a bit ridic.

no the insurance companies cannot just re-create these plans within 6 weeks, because they have to renegotiate all sorts of contracts with providers. that's why these plans are a lie: those plans cannot just magically appear. the system has changed and the market has responded to the incentives and bans due to federal law

quote:

A bunch of hacks using the the problems of people losing their insurance as a reason to bash the president and who are furious because McCain and others want to fix the problem.

mccain cannot fix the problem in this manner

the only way they could is by legislating that all insurance companies are mandated to re-instate and re-offer these plans, which would be chaos in the market

quote:

How dare McCain attempt to alleviate a problem

he's just passing new legislation that does nothing to alleviate the actual problem. that's the point

it's symbolic legislation

the problem is the ACA. if you want to fix the problem, you have to get into the nuts/bolts of the law itself

quote:

Personally I've been against the ACA and one reason is I think people should be able to buy their own shitty policy.

or my amazing policy...that is now illegal

quote:

Here we have a proposal to allow this and you people bitch.

my policy ain't coming back

1) Im not a fricking hack, I hate the repubs as much as I hate the dems
2) His proposal does NOTHING to fix the underlying problem. It is a ruse to gain votes.

SOOO STUPID!!!!

We should send every Republican congressman a copy of the Art of War. You've spent the last 5 years fighting this, now you've got them on the ropes, and you want to call time out?

The Republicans must've gotten their political strategy of "If were nice to them, they'll be nice to us" from Obamas foreign policy.

Policy wise that is the best thing to do however politically you can't just tell suffering people to suck it up because they didn't vote for your guy. That would destroy everything the GOP has gained during this disastrous rollout.

In order for this to work, insurance companies have to be able to ignore the foolish ACA requirements - which McCain is not proposing.

I just think its a poor move - both in effect and politically.

the GOP needs to just create/push the narrative: this is what happens when you seek solutions through government, then say that we want to fix these problems by decreasing government, to give people more choices

mo fedgov, mo problems

keep pushing, "we can't just add more laws to a bad law that is hurting you. we have to repeal that law, and others like it."

re: Repubs don't have a clue

Dems are pushing a similar legislation to "force" insurance companies to keep the plans. R's should support that to make the lie stay on the Dems when they find out there is no going back to old plans. Only thing R's should pass in the House is full repeal and stick with that
