We'e already discussed on here that the level of defenses Manning's faced vs. what Brees has faced greatly favors Manning. Brees has had to face some stiff defenses. Manning, not so much.

re: QB Index

I wouldn't necessarily disagree, but I wouldn't count on manning having a sub par game against the chiefs

or against the jets, bucs, etc...

He has the best collection of skill position players and he is tearing it up.

I think Brees, Rodgers and, to a lesser extent, Brady would do the same under the circumstances.

Manning could throw 0 TDs and 20 INTs the rest of the season and they would somehow spin it and he'd still be the lead for League MVP and in a league of his own when it comes to NFL QBs.

they undoubtedly would, but he has been phenomenal this year and has earned all of his praise.

Brees needs a couple more 5 TD games and a couple of manning stinkers to catch him in TDs.

Come on, dude.

Manning is clearly having the best season, regardless of defenses or media interpretation.

Not really. There's actually almost no difference at all if you look at pass defenses

The Saints' offense breaks records at the Superdome, but it isn't nearly the same outdoors.

endless from the media

while ignoring...

the Saints 23-12 road record since '09.

Only outdoors?

Outdoor Road Games Since '09
all wins except for losses CAPPED
philly
buffalo
miami
tampa bay
washington
LOST to carolina but few starters since #1 seed
san francisco
tampa bay
carolina
dallas
cincy
LOST baltimore
LOST tampa bay
LOST green bay
jacksonville
carolina
LOST tampa bay
nashville
-no look at 2012 aberration
tampa bay
chicago
LOST new england
LOST nyj

That's 15-7 on the road outdoors. That means they were 7-5 on road games indoors. Oh no!! CRISIS- this team has proven they can't win on the road INDOORS consistently!

Either that or the performance in the game means a lot more than if it is indoors or out.

re: QB Index

I know that road record stuff from people is bullshite, but it certainly hasn't been this year

bucs - squeeked it out after a monsoon

chicago - beat them handily, but still not the offensive excellence we've come to expect.

pats - didn't move the ball consistently and refused to run it when we were hitting them at 7 a clip

jets - offense didn't move the ball well at all

sounds like a spoiled fan when I say this, but we haven't eclipsed 30 points once on the road while we've done it 4 times at home

this year, we're not a strong road team. We have plenty of opportunities to change that though and I expect an offensive showcase against the seahawks...once again that sounds spoiled

Looks like you listed a loss at Tampa from the 2010 season if I'm counting correctly. We beat them 31-6 at their place that year. They beat us in the dome when we sat starters.

aside from the OP, I don't think anyone is discounting what manning has done nor denying that he is having the best season

I don't think he is in a tier above rodgers or brees. Brady...he is having a rough year.

re: QB Index

You're right, even better 15-6 on the road outdoors

Along the lines of what mulder was sayin... the perception is that the Saints are doomed outdoors. And we know that Brees is on fire/money in the dome. Still, the reality is that the Saints have one of the best road records- and even better outdoors than indoors.

A Monday night beatdown of the seachickens should get the press to catch up to the black 'n gold as THE NFC contender- whether BYE & homefield throughout or on the road.

Brees is having a beastly season. He'd be the MVP favorite almost any other year. Peyton just happens to be having an historical season.

re: QB Index

I think manning is having a historical season because he plays with the best collection of skill players. I think Brees and Rodgers would do the same, but when you consider how beat up he has been and how old he is, it's pretty freaking incredible.

I think brees can catch him this year if KC lives up to the billing and Brees reels off some great games against great Ds...we'll see.

I'm so pumped for the rest of the season. I feel like there is just a slew of incredible games ahead.

Yall do realize that one 200 yard game from Payton and 1 400 yard game from Brees and they are about equal in passing yards..........

They are currently separated by roughly 220 yards I believe.......

If Payton struggles against KC this week and Brees keeps his foot on the gas.........we are gonna have a fun race to 5500.......

It will be like Bree's 4th 5000 yard passing season in a row

There's a lotta season left boys

Don't count out the Breesus

Peyton has been getting hit a lot. Has been nursing sore ankles. They don't get more durable with age and neck surgeries.

Brees actually has a tougher remaining schedule in terms of pass Ds with San Fran, Seattle, Carolina twice, etc. If he plays like a maniac despite that tough schedule he might catch Manning in terms of efficiency stats or yards, TDs are probably already out of reach though

re: QB Index

panthers twice
san fran
seahawks

I didn't say it was likely I'm just saying he is good enough to do it.

on top of that manning would have to have 2 stinkers, so I guess we'll see how great KC is. My guess, and that is all it is, is he rips KC apart...but who knows with the injury.

I'm not really concerned with where the stats fall, I want to house san fran, carolina and seattle

re: QB Index

If brees replicates his last 7 games of the 2011 season in similar fashion, you can tack on

199/278 (71.58%)
2472 yards (353.1ypg)
8.89 ypa
25 TDs
3 INTs

making his total:
446/641 (69.6%)
5536 yards (346ypg)
8.64 YPA
50 TDs
10 INTs

Extrapolating Manning's current 9 game average over 16 games, you'd get:
466/656 (71%)
5776 yards (361ypg)
8.8 YPA
59 TDs
11 INTs

If you take away the first game of the season, only take the average of the last 8 games and take that average and add it to the current total, he'd come out:
467/655 (71.3%)
5688 yards (355.5ypg)
8.68 YPA
56 TDs
11 INTs

Brees has to be even BETTER than 2nd half of the 2011 season to even remotely catch up.
