7.5
SI Coaches rank (Miles 6th) LINK

Let's get this out of the way. Saban is one of the greatest college coaches of all time. Tireless worker and recruiter that emphasizes even the smallest details.

I think Miles biggest problem is complacency. In the BCS game against Bama it appeared they made no changes from their game plan from November. Outside of Saban what coach has done more than Miles in the last 10 years? Could LSU get a better X and O guy than Miles? Probably. Could they get someone better suited to handle the pressure of winning in an ultimately competitive league? Maybe.

Miles might not be perfect but what coaches out there are? With very few exceptions, long term coaches at programs, have a very hard time maintaining exceptional programs.

If Frank leaves you will really see how good he is. 5 at best.

Miles is a solid 7.

He definitely has his weaknesses, but he also has some very solid strengths.

I know all the Rant loves to go with the "#DECLINE" or "mediocrity" bullshite, but the truth is that Miles has kept LSU consistently in the top 25. LSU is not a historically elite program. Anyone cannot and will not come to LSU and win. This has been proven in the past.

I completely agree. I couldn't have said it better myself. 7.5

I was 8.5 before the season, I think I've fallen to 7 now, and if we don't lock up the instate recruits remaining on our radar I may view him at a 6.

How many times has LSU hired a coach when they were an elite program?

so now ranked 16th at the end of the season is an elite program?

I thought that was mediocre?

I just can't keep up with the Rant sometimes.

Regardless of what anyone thinks about Miles, this really is the only question. Which coaches out there are you SURE could come in and do better? As well as is not on the table, because there's no reason to make a change for the status quo.

Though he didn't do as well when he was here the first time, the automatic assumption is Saban...so we'll list him first. Who else? I'd say Urban Meyer based on his ability to win big at three straight stops. Anyone else? Any one else you KNOW could come in and do it?

For every Urban Meyer Florida hire, there's a Ron Zook...or even a Will Muschamp. As much as I like Miles, I'm far too cautious to toss him out in HOPES we can replace the coach with the highest winning percentage in our program's history with a guy that will improve on that. If it was that easy, everyone with deep pockets would do it when they got angry. This seems like a problem to face when he decides to leave, or actually starts to tank.

That is why he is #2 and he would never leave OSU for LSU.

2 national titles since 2003. Its been proven twice LSU can win championships. We have top notch facilities, pay, and a fertile recruiting base.

Now answer the question...when has LSU hired a coach under these circumstances?

Isn't LSU 8-9th all time in wins?

So you admit that LSU is still an elite program under Les?

Was miles thought of as a great coach prior to coming to LSU? 28-21 record at Ok. St. says no.

3 I've never truly liked Les as a coach, and 1/9 was the icing on the cake.

He proved that he could build a traditional doormat into a winning program.

Ok St. had 1 winning season in the 10 years prior to Les.

Les had 3 winning seasons in his 4 years there. His only losing season was his first year.

He beat Oklahoma. That is the only reason some people knew who he was.

Is Gundy a better coach than Miles? He has taken that program to a much higher level since CLM left.
