Moving a gun safe

Anyone have experience moving a 500lb gun safe? This one certainly isn't as big a some safes (1200-1300 lbs), but I don't know how hard it would be to move a safe on a 700lb rated appliance dolly. I need to go through my backyard and into the basement. Can 2 guys move it?

easier than you thing. My Cannon is more than 500 and it was not bad.

Used a good dolly and blankets. Blankets made the safe easy to slide and spin on tile. I then pulled the blanket across the carpet to put in place. 2 guys will get your safe done

steps? I have no idea. Just glad I do not have any

if you can get it on the dolly, get two pieces fo plywood to lay on the grass/ ground and leap frog them so you have a smooth surface to roll it on.

When you get to a door way or any other raised area you have to go over you will probably have to "walk" the corners over. I think areas like this a hand truck is better than a dolly.

Maybe put some plywood on the stairs. If you can get a rope around it and use a truck to slowly lower it.

You might be able to remove the door, it will make it much lighter...

This is what they used when I had a big cast iron pellet stove installed in my basement. Some sort of motorized dolly made for stairs.

I like this idea.

Other than the stairs, they aren't that bad to move with two people.

How many stairs we talking? I guess I was thinking a walkout basement.

It's a walkout basement door. Just one step to get it in the house. Hardest part will be getting it down the grass hill to my backyard. Gonna need a few sheets of plywood.

It's like a levee, but not next to a river.

Two guys are coming to my house to deliver a similar weight Superior safe (little heavier at 550 I think) to my house today. Mine will be going down a grass hill and up a step into my basement as well. I have rubber ramps on my basement exit though since I use my basement as a motorcycle shop as well. I can let you know how they manage it.

All I can say is I am glad it was delivered. shite did not look fun coming down the grassy hill with just two guys. They tore up a small section of my grass where they almost lost control of it coming down to the basement. I was originally not gonna tip the guys (charged me a bit extra to go to the basement), but after seeing how hard it was I gave them a small tip.

I would consider at least another person to help. Don't stand in front of the safe going down the hill.

buy some lights for it. I have the led strip style lights that people buy to put behind TV, cabitry, etc. Many online sites sell them. I got the remote power version so I would not have to bend over to turn it on. It has all colors that are bright but the I bought it for the White light. Lights up really well.
16 ft strip for 30 bucks. Double back tape holds it in place.

Yeah I installed a set of those I had from ikea and rigged them with a motion sensor. Kick on and off by themselves. They sell it in kit form all over the web, but I thought it was too pricey and just made my own since I had the parts already.
