Looking back over my history at the oil change place, this warning is now coming up in shorter periods. First two changes were like 7,000 miles. Last two were 3,000. Can the oil change place mess with the settings or is my truck actually needing quicker changes?

Has your driving style changed? Did you do a lot of highway travel early on and then more city commuting later?

Those oil life monitors use an algorithm that monitors your driving style between oil change intervals. So if you drive the interstate a lot for the first oil change, and then like a bat out of hell in the city for the second...your intervals will drop. Could also be your motor getting more and more broken in and adjusting to your driving style...just a guess.

Thanks-had no idea how that worked.

I have a '05 Tacoma, and I use Toyota filters because of this video where the guy breaks apart the Toyota filter and all the competitor filters.

Literally, there is no f'n contest, its quite embarrassing the advertisement vs what you get in these aftermarket filters.

Oh and Valvoline

2011 F-150 Ecoboost
Ford Motorcraft Filter
Mobil 1 Full Synthetic
Take it to Ford and have them change it every 5K, may run over a little.

Have you started dragging around your camper more lately?

The computer monitors engine hours, load, RPMs, and some other things that affect your oil life more than mileage. Mileage is really a poor indicator of when you should change oil, but it's the only thing you could go by before ECMs and dataloggers.

I don't think you can tamper with the oil life light without hooking up a laptop with the proper software and re-flashing the computer.

Can't turn them off or change the parameters...but you can reset them. I know on my Ram you reset by turning the key to on/acc and pressing the gas pedal all the way down 3 times.

My use of the truck, as far as I can tell, has been the same from day one. It's a pretty predictable cycle from 1 year to the next.

Man, I can't stress how much quality fluids can ensure the longevity of an engine.

Since someone put the wrong coolant in my truck, the front cover got a hole in it. Now, I am having to clean up the job since someone used the regular old everyday stuff

On top of that, I am gonna have to run Auto-rx to clean out my brand new engine full of sludge.

My general plan is to let someone else deal with that portion of the vehicle's life

That's why manufacturers build engines to last 100k before a major breakdown now

I wish a Ford and a Chevy would still last 10 years, like they should.

That is one thing I do not want is old trucks again.

Old trucks were such raggedy shite bombs compared to new ones

I make the biggest mess when I pull my filter off. Still no fix for that

I'm not sure what kind of vehicle this is but if it's a spin on filter you can puncture the filter with a hammer and punch (nail, screwdriver, etc) and let it drain before pulling it. I do this on my f250 because the filter holds nearly a half gallon of oil.

Also, the fumoto valve is great. I have one on my truck and one on my wife's highlander.

All of yall with a ford 5.4 ,make sure and use motorcraft oil filters and 5/20 motorcraft or another good semi or full syn oil. I have replced countless timing fasers(sp), faser solenoids and timing chains but only on trucks using the wrong oil and filter.

I like wix.filters. Will never use a fram. if you cut one apart you will see why
