So paying homage to confederate soldiers is just as bad as paying homage to native americans.

Got it.

Anything about the Confederacy or the Civil War at all is racist!! History isn't important!!!1

Signed,
Great-great-great-granddaughter of a Confederate soldier (and, from another part of the family, also a Union soldier)

There is nothing about the confederacy worth taking pride in. It was a war fought to maintain a system of ownership of humans. Que the "states rights" crowd, but we all know that's bull shite. So a bunch of Southerners went to war with a vastly more prepared and war-ready north, leading to the death of hundreds of thousands of young men, and setting the southern economy back for a couple of generations. Unfortunately, the same ignorance and vanity that leads people to fly confederate flags and glorify these selfish, idiot, 'rebels' is what now, 150 years later, makes the south the poorest, least educated, fattest region of our nation.

That's the worst euphemism for reconstruction I've ever seen.

Weird because there were still slaves in the North and slaves weren't even freed until 2 years into the war, and then only as a strategic maneuver. Weren't slaves in occupied southern territories used as slaves by Union troops?

May want to check your demographics there, genius.

All northern states abolished slavery by 1804

Facts don't lie, genius.
