Uh, with a life-size statue in the middle of campus. Him and Johnny Vaught are the only individuals that have a full size statue on the campus.

LSU Tigers ( as you a-holes are aware) are not named after the animal, but rather Confederate Troops from LA.

So eventually LSU will have to change its mascot as well.

start thinking of names,, Gators is taken,

the Sisterfrickers would have a neat LOGO

Yes. Because if there is one thing that will change everything, it's having a CDO.

Of course, this position will be reserved for someone who is black (white or Asian candidates will not be considered) and will not do anything of note other than to be someone Ole Miss can point to and say "Yes, we celebrate diversity!"

No one cares to mention the William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation is now housed in Vardaman Hall. I would rather imagine James might consider that a fate worse than a name change.

No one cares to mention this committee is in response to the antagonism at the homosexually themed theatrical performance.

This is nothing more than a PR move. There is zero chance we change our name over some football players showing up at a play and causing a scene.

Our state voted to keep stars and bars a part of the state flag, even black people don't want to go the extent of wiping out our heritage.

For anyone in here who cares to actually engage the subject, we only stand to repeat our past mistakes if we do not learn from them. How will we learn from them if we do not have a record of them? It is called history. Anyone in here ever actually studied it?

Also missed Vardaman was a former Governor. If we want to start bringing up past Governors and their misdeeds then we may have to change buildings all over our country. Maybe we should change the nation's capital to another name and the state that is named after him, because the history books now a days have revised him to a racist European. So let's rename all the buildings cities and roads that were ever named after someone who is not politically correct.

Not true. It was in reaction to the protests when Obama was re-elected. However, considering you are engaging in gay propaganda, I am not surprised you left that little fact out and substituted your own version.

They had the committee look into the theatrical performance issue. Don't miss the forest for the trees. What is your point?

I'd be ok with renaming any buildings named after someone who advocated lynching like Vardaman, especially those placed on a college campus where the very demographic he was advocating it towards is served. Oh excuse me, he was just 'not politically correct.'

true, but one of the Louisiana units that the tiger comes from was from before the Mexican War...

AND is still in the Order of Battle of the US Army...

I'm still pulling for the Fighting Akbars!!! (the average IQ at Ole Miss would go up 10 points in a semester when every science fiction geek in the country tries to go there)

It would be one of the only relevant mascots in the NCAA. Everyone knows who Akbar is. Mississippi is full of catfish. Most mascots are really lame, bizarre at best. What does a dog, elephant, bear, gator, buckeye, etc have to do with sports. At least Akbar lead his team(good guys) into battle.

Fighting tigers is rather appropriate as they represent a bunch of vicious, drunken, undisaplined renegades. A perception still quite admirably maintained by our fan base. In reality I doubt more than 2% of LSU fans know anything about the real origin of the name. To them were only another non indigenous animal mascot.

I'm all for freedom of speech. If they want to look like a bunch of ignorant rednecks by glorifying an era where people were considered property, so be it.

So paying homage to confederate soldiers is just as bad as paying homage to native americans.

Got it.

This would all end if the 85% of people who are fine with the names would tell all these PC idiots to STFU.
