re: Committee tells Ole Miss to get rid of "Ole Miss", symbols, and change names

Pretty sure Ole Miss gets a better response than any title that directly associates us with Mississippi.

maybe so.

but you'd be surprised at the amount of people I've encountered that didn't realize Ole Miss is the same thing as the University of Mississippi.

I'm not saying I think they should move away from being called Ole Miss, just that from a branding perspective it makes sense to go with the university's actual name.

No one calls it the University of Mississippi. The only time you would use that name is on a resume. This is State's problem, not our's.

The baby boomers are to blame for nearly every single current issue we have in this country, ranging from financial to PC sensitivity, to government.

Every one.

Go back to the Big 12 then.

Or you could try to have a legitimate discussion instead of acting like an emotional child.

Yeah, let's spend 8 million dollars of our tax paying money on that. That would be such a worthwhile investment that will do so much.

Dunno where that number came from but I do believe that adding to your (or any schools) history department infrastructure is a worthwhile investment.
quote:

We Are Ole Miss. No one is fricking confused by it, and the people that are think that Mississippi State is our proper name since no one knows who the frick they are. This seems more like State's problem and not our's.

Sorry but I have encountered many people who don't knoe that Ole Miss = U of Mississippi. Sorry if that chaps your arse but its true. The fact that you think it's a Miss State problem that some people confuse you two is incredibly short sighted.

Yea and that's a problem of average Joe doesn't know that when he is watching the Ole Miss football team (likely the most exposure for the school year in and year out) he is watching the U of M.

It's just as much your problem if the schools are getting confused.

I still don't think one ole miss supporter has made a legitimate argument. I got a solid laugh out of their responses

We already spend enough money on white guilt, and I don't plan to pay anymore.

It's not a problem for us at all. Seriously, how often are people looking for clarification of Ole Miss vs the University of Mississippi? No one gives a frick. It's like calling out Larry the Cable Guy for being confusing since that's not his actual name. I think everyone knows its a nickname and no one seems to give a frick.

And I don't think we're trying to make an argument.

Well, I'm not.

no, it's the University of Mississippi's problem b/c they have ineffective marketing that does a poor job branding.

Again, I am not saying to get rid of Ole Miss for UoM. Just that you should go with either one or the other.

If Ole Miss is such a great name why not officially name the school Ole Miss?
