I'm honestly having a difficult time choosing which is better between this and Gravity.

Sunshine's first two acts are perfection. However the 3rd act almost ruins it.

Gravity is just great throughout. However, I did feel something was a bit missing. Still a great movie to experience.

I loves sunshine too

The last 25 minutes gets shite on, and it's definitely not as good as the first 2/3 of the movie, but I actually still really liked the last act

The ending was perfect IMO

The score is great as well

i wouldnt go so far as to say it ruins it, but it certainly is a letdown compared to the first acts. just came out of left field. i partially enjoyed it because of the suspense it brought about before you knew it was pinbacker. like when cillian murphy is talking to the computer who tells him there's someone else on board. i remember getting goosebumps

Obviously Gravity is more of a personal story...I'm just wondering....would it have better. .Then again...Maybe the movie was hitting on that no matter what happened before in your life....you've got to move ahead and keep living.

Movies CAN have too much, that much is true. Too many layers. Too many characters. Too many meanings and paths for interpretation. Too much, becomes nothing.

While just MAYBE a criticism, I tend to think that the efficiency of the story and characters, was a big part of the film. For example, everyone saying there was no story are sorely mistaken. There just wasn't an overabundance of many. There was one, and only one. They missed the completely real, and very poignant tale of love, loss, forgiveness and faith.

I think everyone goes into a movie wanting 6 characters, 3 major characters, 17 different meanings and critiques, 24 relationships, 16 love stories, a back-story, 10 future possibilities, etc. So when a movie cuts it down so much. 2 characters. 1 Story, 2 relationships, Man vs. Nature it can be completely misinterpreted as having "no story," or "not enough story."

i didnt miss shite. what they gave us felt artificial and unauthentic. i prefer more than a bare-bones story which is why i couldnt give it 5 stars. the dialogue definitely didnt help either

Probably agree to disagree, there was plenty of story there if you were listening and watching.

Just because you don't prefer something doesn't mean it isn't good.

ive seen it twice, i know it's there. i just like something more involved. im not knocking the movie for not focusing on it; it wasnt the focus at all. it accomplished all of its goals and that's admirable

Fair enough.

Sounds like you were, just the language and word choice. And to get nitpicky saying a movie isn't 5/5 and is only a 4/5 just because of story shortcomings, is discredting it, because:

quote:

im not knocking the movie for not focusing on it; it wasnt the focus at all. it accomplished all of its goals and that's admirable

Should probably make it 5/5.

it's just my personal way of ranking things. it may very well be a 5/5 to other people. im just saying that I, personally, can't give it 5 stars. 5s are reserved for movies that mix story, writing, acting, cinematography, and score/soundtrack together perfectly (imo of course). i never give these out. so, in essence, im not knocking gravity for the light story, i just cant give it a perfect rating.

I honestly expect it to make it as some dark horse candidate on AFI's 100 Greateat films in a 2017. They're surely going to add a film or two from this era, and simply due to the cinematic spectacle of it, I'd expect it to make it. I would honestly love for someone to tell me a film that is greater on the big screen itself.

Ehh, while good, I can think of a few better. Lawrence of Arabia for me is the only one that comes close.

From an experience and story standpoint, Avatar shits on Gravity. Avatar, for all of it's cliches, was absolutely stunning. It's the only non-superhero movie of the last 10 years that I have gone to see in theaters twice. And it actually had a first act. Jake wasn't that great of a character, but he did develop beyond going from an emo kid to being happy to live again which is what Sandra Bullock did.

I don't know how the hell you can say you had some deep emotional connection with a character that the writer spent absolutely no time on. Seriously. There are pilots for CBS procedurals that make you care more about a character than this movie made you care about Sandra's character.

The only aspect of any characters I cared about was Clooney's story that cut off before the disaster started and the whole dream sequence when he was going to tell her the "funny story" of how he made it to the ISS pod.

This movie, just like Children of Men was an above average movie that for whatever reason, people want to lose their shite over. Cauron is the Judd Apatow of sci-fi flicks. Solid movies, but damn people lose their minds over them.

Hell Pacific Rim and STID were better experiences than Gravity.

Prediction: OML is going to bitch about me being wrong and contrarian even though more people on this board have agreed with my assessment of the movie (7/10) than his (BEST FILM EVER!!!).

gravity was a great experience and a mediocre movie

it's like a 7.5/10

i think children of men was awesome, fwiw

yeah the whole "dead kid" angle really did pop back up out of nowhere to dominate the very end

we're conditioned to expect that, but it still wasn't developed at all and was a cheap tool more than actual characterization
