This is really playing out as a clinic in how not to launch a major website project, failing in every respect across the board, from planning, to the communications, to testing and everything in between. Can you think of anything in history of the web that was worse? This is the government of course and history indicates that the exchange was probably built by a number of the cheapest available contractors through a bidding program, that is actually pretty close, but just wait until you hear about the money. The contractors behind the exchange were CGI Federal, who built the site, Quality Software Systems Inc. (CSSI) – a Canadian company that built the information hub, and Booz Allen who is responsible for enrollment and eligibility technical support. Somewhere in that soup of contractors, they built a site that – /wait for it/ – was built for 50,000 to 60,000 concurrent users at a total cost (so far) of $634 million. Feel free to replay that ratio. $634,000,000/50,000. Here’s another ratio to ponder – 50,000 users in 50 states. I guess if you can get the work….you do it. In this case unfortunately for many the product is downright poor.

The only correction i would make in that is they probably weren't the cheapest, just the most available.

Fixed. Available has nothing to do with it.

I can understand reasonable people disagreeing over social politics. I can even understand reasonable people disagreeing over foreign policy, spending and taxing.

However, I cannot understand espousing the government taking over, even in large part but not totally, any function of society, let alone healthcare, which is the bedrock of society.

Obama and crew don't want it to work. If it worked people would know how much it would cost.

Some folks just can. One of my former bosses called it "seeing the holes". One of the tests I had for hiring analysts was a visual test. "What do you see", helped tell me how people think.

I'm good at it, but I don't think I'm anywhere near "The Dude's" status. That's impressive.

The thing that bothers me is that nobody is held accountable by either party for crap like this.

It really wasn't long ago, politicians got in trouble for spending money on worthless trips. Now any amount seems palatable to either side.

Not long ago, if a project went from 95 to over 600 million there would be hearings and firings. Nope. Both sides love the trough.

Dems will never stop spending so I say it is time to toss ALL repubs out. All of them. Make it clear we want fiscally responsible politicians or none at all.

Sure it would cause short term pain but eventually they would get the message.

Problem is it will never happen. If Obama has proven anything it is that we have reached a point where our beliefs are obliterated by the "want" to stay in power.

Obama has clearly violated almost every tenet held dear by Libs but you can't get a single lib here to admit it.

Expansion of the Patriot Act while holding a super majority is all I have to say to you folks. There is no disputing it. You can't. All of you libs railed over it and yet you had a super majority and did nothing.

Conservatives. What are you smirking about? They have been as bad a libs when it comes to spending money and pork projects.

Hate all of you and not just a little.

Ya, I'd always say start at zero and tell me primes. then when they'd get to around 41 or 43, I'd say OK start at zero and tell me perfect numbers. The funny thing though is there can be a smart guy that doesn't fall through the cracks. We hired a genius who was too lazy to hit a lick at a snake. He became obsessed about rewriting the standard qsort function. What a waste of brainpower. I'm sure he's pulling down a cool $60k at some university somewhere.

The Dude is a legend. Think Phil Katz. We used to exchange emails in hex. Don't know why he's still working with all the IP checks he's getting.

They don't necessarily do low bid. Standard practice is lowest QUALIFIED bid.

Problem is with high tech projects, a lay person has no way of knowing if the low bidder is competent or not.

Even if designed for 50,000 on a regular day, testing should have stress tested it for millions of users at one time....
