LINK

Something I found interesting in the article and did not know....

quote:

Daniel said the ticket will be dismissed as long as a person signs an affidavit saying he or she was not the driver.

Welp, there you go people. That's how serious the local government takes this.

That little affidavit thing isn't exactly a get out of jail free card.

They still haven't collected almost half of the payments in 5 years.

They are just counting on a scared populace to pay

What was funny was one of the council members admitted on the news that many people dont pay because there isnt anything we can really do to enforce it

In my thread yellowfin is saying that the cameras in Lafayette somehow got his wife's social security number and affected her credit.

Did she try to validate the debt? Would love to know how the govt is providing SSNs to a private company without consent.

it's a 25$ ticket that doesn't go on your driving record, who freaken cares, just pay it. and every time I've been sent a red light camera ticket..I've been guilty. Now, if the fine goes to $100 or something like that, now we have problems.

The registered owner of the vehicle that runs a red light will receive a notice of violation that costs $117. The fine for subsequent violations within a 12-month period will cost $167 each. The fine is a civil penalty and will not be reported to the driver’s insurance company.

BTW

quote:

Is this only a revenue generating program?

No. This is a safety program. Red light camera enforcement programs have been shown to reduce red light violations and intersection crashes. Numerous worldwide studies as well as the experience of many other US cities, indicate significant decreases in red light running violations and collisions after cameras were installed. Other intersections not monitored by automated enforcement may also experience a decrease in violations and accidents as a result of the presence of this automated enforcement in other areas of the community.

So BR is looking to find ANOTHER company to pay, just this time they will ride around booting people?

Wow.

re: Baton Rouge Red Light Cameras Approved for 5 More Years
So let me get this straight.

Ya'll are not denying that you've broken a law, but bitching about the way you were caught. That's fricking pitiful and it's becoming the new American way. And you blame Obama? That thought process is truly a democratic thought process. It's always someone else's fault. It's never mine.

And don't say it's just bigger government, because it's NOT. It's using technology in place of a policeman sitting by a traffic signal, OR manning a speed trap in the case of the speeding cameras. It's LESS government. And if it's a money grab, then that's fine too.

BTW, I was caught doing 52 in a 45 with a speeding camera. Received a $60 ticket in the mail and paid it. END OF STORY! Even though I was in my wife's car, and she received the ticket. According to a previous poster she could have signed an affidavit stating it wasn't her and I could have gotten away with it. But you know what, I was GUILTY.
