Former Saint Derland Moore on NFL

LINK
Dude was Beast in New Orleans. He took some major blows as did everyone in the day.
It's a darn shame these guys suffer in their old age. I'm not so sure the NFL is to blame though. The NFL provided these guys the platform to promote their career and money. Didn't they CHOOSE to follow that path?

Highly doubt he made much money in his career.

He made the going rate and agreed to it. Who victimized him?

It's not about being victimized.

How can you possibly disagree with this?

"We" would include pretty much everyone at that time, right...owners, league, even the Boxing world. They weren't told because studies and knowledge of the subject wasn't available then. It wasn't deliberately withheld info or something. Do you think there was deception or something?
How do you blame the league?

He had no reservations about letting his son Chip play football.

I don't see him saying the NFL keep info from him. I see him saying that they should take care of the old timers who didn't make money but destroyed their bodies probably worse than current players. I don't disagree.

but yes, I probably would play. I probably would.

So, with this horrible situation...as tough as it's been for him...and with all of the anecdotal evidence of his peers who can't take care of himself, he would do it again.

At least 50% of the blame goes to the players.

There is an entire players association. That's who he should be bitching at.

Why would the NFL have to carry the burden for that when the players association chooses not to?

Do you feel the NFL is obligated?

It is sad that with all the money the teams and players make that they cannot find some small percentage to put into a medical plan for the old timers who helped pave the way for today's NFL. It would probably only represent a rounding error in their accounts.

I remember him well. He was one of our few bright spots back in those days.

That's cool to see that he retired in Louisiana. I guess he found a home there.

I used to see him a lot at Sportsbeat in Metairie. I think that he lived and worked around there.

At a time when some are lamenting the fact that the settlement of the concussion lawsuits will prevent the public from knowing what the NFL knew and when the NFL knew it, those same questions will never be answered regarding the NFLPA. What did the NFLPA know, when did the NFLPA know it, and why didn’t the NFLPA do a better job of protecting its men?

Wasn't Derland Moore in the Saints United Way commercial in the 80's. They must not do those anymore. There used to be one for each team.
