Actually a small portion of slaveowners treated their slaves harshly

perhaps but like I said, nobody remains enslaved without the threat of violence. This is common sense.

Or sitting in the comfort of his home, which belonged to the Native Americans at one time.

What of it? They would take us to field trips to Plantation homes in the area here all the time when I was in school. It's very common.

I doubt that's the case. It would really make no sense to do something like that. Not that it didn't happen, but I don't think it occurred on the scale you believe.

It was rare and there were even laws put in place to restrict punishment of a slave. Why the hell would someone want to damage their investment. A slave owner beating a slave is like a farmer taking a sledgehammer to his tractor. I'm not trying to rationalize slavery, it's wrong. I'm just stating the obvious.

Yeah how dare we even do such a thing! We should all live in guilt and discount our achievements.

Google voluntary slavery, very common historically and in contemporary Africa.

I'm confused, why is everybody mentioning white guilt? The OP didn't mention it and I don't really see how it is relevant to the point he is trying to make. Some of you are just so defensive whenever a subject like this gets brought up.

Because slavery is thrown in our face by the so called black leaders every time they feel slighted

Hmmm, then why didn't the slaves just say "F this cotton field honkey, I'm done picking this stuff for you" and walk out?

So you've totally lost discernment when it comes to this issue? What does this have to do with the OP, who I'm going to assume isnt a so called black leader?

OP, you need to remember the thinking of the time. We were bringing savages out of ignorance and paganism, and introducing them to civilization and Christianity.

That was some of the justification at the time. I don't subscribe to it, but there it is.

I feel like theres probably a couple places they would have preferred over working in a field during the scorching heat

Because the point the OP is trying to make is the quintessential example of white guilt, whether he says it isn't or not.

Of course he's going to say it isn't, it makes his point look legit.
