the design of the passing game had more to do with our troubles than the guys executing the offense.

I always thought our offense sucked because both of them were terrible.

Of course, they could have done a better job gameplanning around them and they probably should have rolled with Mett in 2011 and let him take his lumps, but playing Oregon off the bat makes it tough.

I don't think that JJ or JL would have been as good as Mett could be, but they could have been serviceable QBs in a good offensive scheme.

The biggest difference between Bama and LSU has been their QB development.

Mett has more talent than JL, JJ and McCaron and McCaron has won two titles, but I agree....had Lee been developed since 2008, no question our 2011 team wins a national title....NONE

x1000000000

JL could have done great things with Cam.

JJ could have ridden pine for 4 years with Cam.

My argument to all of this is Mett's performance last year. He's clearly talented like I said, but last year, he played very mediocre much like the QBs in the 4 years before him. We bring in a new OC with a different philosophy. new route combinations, and an ability to coach QBs, and suddenly we're talking about a team that can in because, instead of in spite, of the offense.
Mett was going to be better this year regardless. Cam has been awesome but last year was Mett's first year as a starter in the SEC. There were going to be growing pains.

his progression would not be nearly as extreme had Cameron not come.

No, because only complete idiots think that those two could not have been better players with better coaching and play calling. Both of those guys, in their own ways could have been coached up and put into positions on the field that would have made them get the most out of their respective talents.

That being said, Mett is and was a better QB than either, so it's unlikely either would be playing as well as Mett is thus far...but they'd have both benefited mightily from Cam.

With any decent Qb development and a coordinator with as much autonomy as Cam, Lee never relinquishes the starting job to JJ at LSU

I believed that in 09, 2010 and 2011

This. JL would have been great with 3 years of Cam coaching him.

Not so sure about that. JJ and JL should have improved with experience, but they regressed. The difference is coaching. Just look at how much the mechanics and fundamentals of both Mett and the receivers have improved this year. Plus, we're passing out of running formations and vice-versa. We're throwing to TEs and even RBs. Coaching matters.

Bull shite. The difference this year has been because of Cam. No one developed the way Mett has until Cam got here.

A couple of actual facts concerning your post.
quote:

lee was a better passer,
Jefferson finished with higher RAT, % and just about every other stat.
quote:

he didnt have the mobility.
I don't see Mett as any more mobile than Lee.

I saw big gains just from Krags work with both in '11 and too bad he hadn't been there all along.
Lee was good up to a point.
Jefferson was good up to a point, but had the task of facing elite Ds in 3 games.
Pretty obvious it was too little, too late.

You're really going to try to say Jefferson was a better passer than Lee and claim facts?

Did you watch JJ's last two games? Did Lee ever have games like those two?

Mett's a statue.

I'm going to wait a while before I fully get on the Mett bandwagon.

If he can go to Athens and shine, I will be sold.

re: Does Mett's success change the way you look at Lee and Jefferson?

In fact, if you look at the games in 2011 where Lee played versus the ones Jefferson played (throwing out Bama and Ole Miss), you get the following completion percentages:

JL- 63.6%
JJ- 56.4%

How about TD:INT ratio:

JL- 16:3 (includes Bama)
JJ- 5:2

On what planet was JJ a better passer? Didn't you say the facts back you up?

Which is the better QB/OC combination?

Lee and Jefferson with Cam Cameron
Zach Mettenberger with Crowton and Studrawa

???

Unfortunately we saw the worst possible combination of that in 2008-9, and thankfully we're getting the best possible combination now (which is the part that's really important).

One game, Bama 2011. Jefferson had several.

ETA: And even in that half a game, he had only 6 yards less than JJ did in the SEC championship game.

I think both coud have been better with someone like cam.
Fact is JL was a better qb when he graduated than he was when he started, same cant be said for JJ...
So obv that woud lead you to believe JL would have benefited more.
