New La. town coming hopefully -The City of St. George - updated

Petition Drives This Weekend:
Saturday September 28, 2013
Ralphs on Jones Creek Rd: 8:00am - 1:00pm
Barringer Road Park: 9:00am- Noon
4145 Drusilla Dr: 8:00am - Noon
13646 Perkins Rd: 8:00am-2:00pm

13646 Perkins Rd. 70810 (white small office building next to firestation)

New article on page 9

New City in LA - City of ST. George

I guess I am moving to the 70810 with perfect timing

The Lawrason Act provides the constitutional process to incorporate a city.

Under the Lawrason Act, a petition must be circulated and signed by 25 percent of all registered voters located within the proposed new city. Upon completion of the petition with the requisite number of signatures, it must be submitted to the Registrar of Voters for certification. The next step upon certification is submission to the Governor, who has the responsibility to call a special election in which only the registered voters within the proposed incorporated area are eligible to vote. If a majority of those voters vote "yes," the measure is passed and the new city is born.

The Gardere students would probably help the schools get more ADA money.

They say 2/3rds of the tax base comes from the proposed boundary.

Holden opposes this?

He supported Central's schools and incorporation when he was in the state house, didn't he?

Also, isn't he mayor of the entire parish?

I'd agree with that. A lot of upper middle to upper class income live in that area. And yet the entire parish is run by the Dee dee slaughter wannabe's.

St. George's taxpayers provide two-thirds of the revenue to the East Baton Rouge Parish government with only one-third of that government's expense in return.

East Baton Rouge has a merged government with Baton Rouge. People in Zachary and Central vote for council members and the mayor-president.

If I'm Holden, I'm supporting this as a mayor-president that wants to keep the tax base within East Baton Rouge. It wouldn't shock me if Holden wouldn't support it....but he did support Central's incorporation (which was also about public schools) when he was in the legislature.

Holden wants to be Governor one day. He's going to try to position himself to be lieutenant governor soon. He's going to give the voters in St. George what they want. He has a history of supporting these districts to. White people in this very district elected this guy.

I think if St. George has enough support within the boundaries to create a new city, the schools will come pretty easily afterward. From where I'm standing, it looks like they control their own destiny. I'd support this if I were in that district with the understanding that municipal schools will likely be supported by additional sales taxes...and will probably increase property value in that district.

Particularly if property taxes are raised. I wish they would go back to bean fields. I need a place to dove hunt!
