re: Pope on spiritual lives of gays and lesbians

Are you stupid ?

God knows your heart.

God would not deny any sinner who was truly repentant , but the word repent means , to turn away from , so you seem to be impliying that a person can fool God.

I find myself agreeing with you quite a bit, but not on this one.

Thanks. I'm a very liberal Christian universalist. Not many people seem to agree with me in real life.

Why not just ask us to throw his symbolic body on the ground?

I believe there was a need for a real sacrifice and that communion is our way of remembering said sacrifice.

We do lots of thing symbolically. Ingesting Jesus, or making him part of yourself, falls along those lines.

There were too many pagan cannibalistic traditions at the time for the traditional catholic view to really make sense, imo.

Jesus knew one of his disciples was going to betray him later that night.

Right. But the betrayal occurred AFTER the supper.

quote:

Neither do I, Jesus was merely pointing out that he, as part of God, was also a part of everything in this world. Does the wine taste like blood? No, because it's wine.

quote:

Completely false

Well then Jesus should have said use this ceremony as a symbol of by body and blood going forward. Anyway, we're going to have to disagree on this. I don't want to hijack this thread and turn it into a religious apologetic thread.

That's what I mean, though. It isn't a sacrifice to eat the bread and wine. It would be to burn it or throw it away.

God knew the heart of Judas, he said as much as he was giving him the bread and wine. Judas was not repentant.

Jesus took away the need for sacrifice.

The point I was really trying to make is that I don't think Jesus would deny communion to anyone that claimed him as their Lord and savior. Hopefully, this statement from the pope moves the catholic church in this direction.

I like The Pope a LOT. Seems like an exceedingly good human being. Maybe even the right Man for the moment. But then I'm a "cultural Catholic" at best. I leave the intercine warfare to the theologists and true believers.

The new pope is awesome. He seems to be a great human being first and foremost. A religious leader second. I don't know how much in line with all the doctrines but he's a good person and that should trump doctoral differences.

I don't know, and neither do you.

My inclination would be that he, like most, eventually found his way to heaven.

I wouldn't presume to know.

However the question is, what does "claiming Jesus their Lord and Savior" mean? To be fully repentant and thus filled with grace (void of sin) then that proclamation is true. That proclamation becomes false when you are not filled with grace and retain unrepentant sinfulness. That proclamation needs to be true in order to receive the Eucharist.

Judas at the Last Supper was filled with grace. He did not fall from grace until late Thursday night close to early Friday morning.

You either believe the Eucharistic miracle occurs, or you don't.

What if you just believe it doesn't take the prayers of a priest--a man perhaps an unrepentant pedophile--for the miracle to occur?

What if you believe your own prayers can make this miracle?

Well, it took 5 pages. So... There's that.

The only difference between you and the priest (assuming you are not a priest) is apostolic succession.

I would submit to you that no one can be fully repentant. And given the churches position on giving the Eucharist to protestants, this language would suggest that unless you are Catholic you can never be truly full of grace and thus doomed to an eternity of torment.

He agreed to betray Jesus before the last supper.

unfortunately it is so often mentioned in discussions about the Church--it's terrible the Church let it become so common place and ignored the victims in example after example around the world.

Why is it that only through the prayers of these people can the bread and the wine become the body and the blood??

Well, being a pedophile is quite disgusting but you know what, it too like homosexuality is not sinful. Pedophile acts however are sinful.

But he did not betray Him until after the Last Supper. He had a chance to change his mind.

But since you juxtaposed the 2 situations I figured you was implying you knew

If he didn't make it to heaven ( he hanged himself ) then I wouldn't take you advice to heart.
