When do the good people of the country just march on Washington?

quote:

Meanwhile I’m stuck here making $172,000 a year,” Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) said on Wednesday,

quote:

Vitter’s office on Thursday released to the media a letter that fellow Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu, a Democrat, sent to a constituent. She said the notion they are getting special treatment “could not be further from the truth.”

Revolutions have been started for FAR, FAR less.

Could he be making more in the private sector though? Money is all relative.

172K might sound a lot to you but it's not to a lot of other people.

I could see if his salary was in the stratosphere like 500K on up but I'm not going to complain about 172K

He said "STUCK"

Like he is forced to hold the position he campaigned for, ran for, was elected to, and accepted.

that is hardly "STUCK"

The lobbyist position he will get when he leaves will likely be more than 3 times that.

The question should be, would he have been worth that in the private sector without first having that public sector position?

In order for people to revolt they need to become very uncomfortable. Until the middle class is struggling to feed their children in large numbers you won't see a revolt.

If you want to be machine-gunned by FedGov police armored vehicles, you'll march on a FedGov building with violent intent.

"Suicide-by-cop" is the latest rage, but, I admit, getting FedGov police to machine-gun you to death, as you attempt to stage a violent Putsch is a very novel twist.

You'd be a TD PoliBoard Legend if you do that, no doubt.

This.

And, as we know, the middle class is being squeezed tighter and tighter due to monetary and economic policy.

We are doing more with less, and working harder and harder to attain the Amerikan Dream.

strawman weakness from you yet again....

the point was in my reply. The value isnt important. It's how he referenced the value. Either you like building strawmen or are incapable of understanding context.

I'll let you choose which image you wanna portray fattie.

Isn't there one group or another "marching on Washington" almost daily?

True. I don't know what he did in the private sector before this. Maybe he couldn't make 100K there.

And I finally agree with Cpt on something. The term "stuck" does seem rather inappropriate for a job that you had to kiss everyone's arse to get.

I'm sure his constituents really feel horrible about his predicament.

Perks of being an elected official go far beyond official salary. 172k is like a base salary for those guys.
