re: Pope on spiritual lives of gays and lesbians

quote:

"The people of God want pastors," Francis continued, "not clergy acting like bureaucrats or government officials."

Couldn't agree more.

Not to my mind.
Agreed

Only in the way that orthodoxy has been pushed over the past few decades by some, and in their zeal, to the detriment of the message of the gospels.
Disagree.

Orthodoxy has always held the same teaching we have now. Orthodoxy gave us the Catechism where people turn to for what the Church's teaching are.

Orthodoxy is what it is, the truth. The truth is homosexuals are wounded and broken in a way that is different (not worse) that all of us.

The big, big difference is, too many people are trying to normalize this brokenness by saying actions resulting from it (sodomy) are OK, and they are not. As with any sin, it should be repented and every effort made to avoid it going forward.

The message of Christ was always "go and sin no more", not "hey, you were born that way so why fight it".

You think that there have been no changes in Catholic church orthodoxy? Neither big nor small changes? Over the past 2000 years?

Wow. Does this mean he's going to quit fighting gay marriage?

just civilly divorced? If you are celibate then maybe. If you are fornicating outside of your marriage (not annulled) then no. Heck, if you are married and fornicating outside you marriage - no.

Uh...no. Orthodoxy is what some people believe to be the truth.

quote:

The truth is homosexuals are wounded and broken

That is an opinion, not a fact.

Put away your jazz hands, Toddy. Not likely.

It would seem that he wishes to withdraw the Church from the political arena, in my opinion.

I think you're overstating it. He's looking for "more balance", whatever that means.

That's what it sounds like.

If the gay marriage issue is forced on churches by government policy, you can expect them to be more involved in politics than ever...especially if they lose tax exempt status. Don't pretend that's not in the cards down the road.

I don't think so depending on what you are saying is orthodoxy. I would be considered very orthodox and I try to practice my worship as similarly as possible to the early church fathers. Language and a few things aside.

Wrong. I am not even talking from a religious standpoint but from a natural law standpoint it is a broken orientation. Whether that brokenness is from a chemical imbalance, genetic, environmental, or what I do not know.

What I do know, for absolute certain is we have evolved to mate in a certain way. No M:M or F:F couple can reproduce, not can they technically have sex. We have evolved so that part a fits nicely into slot b, it is as simple as that.

Just because something feels good/normal/expressive/what ever you want to call it does not make it so.

I came to that conclusion long before I found my faith.

possibly.

quote:

“We cannot insist only on issues related to abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraceptive methods," he told his Jesuit interviewer. "I have not spoken much about these things, and I was reprimanded for that."

Seems he's saying that they need to broaden their platform and quit cherry picking at issues.

Says who?

Becuase if you link the "shall not lie with another man" verse, you know I'll link gems such as :

quote:

Anyone who dishonors father or mother must be put to death. Such a person is guilty of a capital offense.
Leviticus 20:9

quote:

If any man takes a wife, and goes in to her, and detests her, and charges her with shameful conduct, and brings a bad name on her, and says, ‘I took this woman, and when I came to her I found she was not a virgin,’ … and evidences of virginity are not found for the young woman, then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones
Deuteronomy 22:13-14,20-21

quote:

Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves.
Leviticus 25:44

That would be a welcome shift.

No bible verse taught me that. I saw and see sodomy as wrong from a natural law point of view.

Look, I know you are gay and you think that your lifestyle is normal and it is painful to hear otherwise, but look how your body has evolved and how a female's body has. Notice how those two things fit together to carry on the species? That is evolution working. Anything you do with your body is your business but it is not how nature intended as we evolved.

It has nothing to do with bible verses.

"What would it mean to "interfere spiritually" in the lives of gays and lesbians?"

Perhaps denying something like denying communion?
