Star Trek's Newest Rendition is Definitely Worthy

As a veteran of the original Star Trek, the original Kirk and Spock, Uhura, Bones, McCoy, Sulu and Chekov mythos, I've seen multiple critiques of this new movie series because it messes with the story line a bit and takes liberties with certain various sacred cows the purists might cherish.

I just watched the I. D. movie for the first time "on demand" and can speak from experiencing both the original tv series, the various spin-offs, and now this year's "Into Darkness" (and its 2009 predecessor). This new Enterprise crew, this new generation of Star Trek personalities, are worthy of the high level of respect the original series has received from its fans over five decades.

The new stuff may bend an old story line here or there, but it captures the boldly enterprising spirit of the original Roddenberry series - and make for a really positive new world of potential new Trek adventures for a new generation of viewers.

As an old fan, I like passing the baton to this new Kirk, Spock and crew, as they "boldly go where no one has gone before..." And I'm glad that the old series is not cyrogenically frozen, or forced to be the final word on the ongoing adventures of Kirk and Spock.

New day, new generation, fresh new beginnings. Change can be good. I'm looking forward to more.

Thank you Ace, I've read your thoughts before. I know it must be painful for you to see what they've done with the sacred characters and story. But embrace the future, mon ami. It's not all bad.

I'm just glad New Scotty's pet isn't a poodle. I'd hate to see him dress up a poodle in a Star Fleet uniform. Simon Pegg's Scotty is really the only reimagining I don't like. He lacks the gravitas that Doohan brought to the part, and Doohan could still be funny when the occasion called for it. I'm a Simon Pegg fan otherwise.

I must have missed it. Perhaps you can link some of your opinions, or at least let me know if you love or hate the new ones.

I really liked both ID and 2009, although at first I thought ID was going to suck as the first scenes seemed cheesy and lacking in gravitas.

I didn't like the reboot at all. I thought Spock and really all the characters felt too forced.

But I saw ID last night and was very surprised how good it was. The characters seemed natural and believable mostly, especially Kirk and Spock. All of the homages to TOS I thought were very well done. The differences in the universe and the impact on the characters were explored in interesting ways. Overall one of the better Star Trek movies in my opinion. It made me wish we could watch their 5 year mission on tv.

Well, Doohan was a real live warrior, so that's a lot to follow.

I have never watched a Star Trek show/movie until these new reboots. With that said. I really enjoyed them. Into Darkness is probably my favorite movie of this summer besides MoS.
