I expected it to be a departure from the Donner films. You could tell just from the costume. I expected a darker, more complex Superman and that's what they gave us. That wasn't the problem. The problem with this movie is that it's a big, loud, stupid mess.
MOS was probably the most consistently loud movie that i've ever been to

This just makes it safe to say more people saw Man of Steel. 3D is a big factor as well on the box office as well as Man of Steel appearing in 200 more theaters than Superman Returns.

Average Ticket Price for a film now 8.16

Average Ticket Price for a film in 2006 6.55

Not a lot of 3D films in 2006.

adjusted for inflation numbers are in the link bro(hint:MoS still wins), but you're still talking double the worldwide gross (unadjusted) that's more than 3D ticket sales.

I give Man of Steel a score of 3 out of 5 stars. It was a pretty good film but has plenty of things wrong with it.

All you proved was that more people saw it.

I liked it. I saw it after it had been out a month and was not expecting TDK, but an entertaining flic and it delivered entertainment for me.

doesn't matter. You said evidently more people like Superman Returns and I proved MoS was more popular. Box Office isn't always right, but combine that with the sequal and the universal hate Returns received by the fans it's safe to say MoS is the better received film.

A "better" film is purely subjective.

MoS captured the core of Superman, Returns was flat and unoriginal.

If superman had stopped the oil tanker that was thrown at him by Zod instead of jumping over over it nonchalantly and letting it explode into the parking garage behind him, killing at least 15 people, this movie probably would have had a solid 65% on RT

I would venture to say that more people like Elvis than the Black Eyes Peas, yet The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” is more popular than any Elvis song.

If it was universally hated, then why the better critical reception? Are you using the TV/Movie board as the sample size?

If Man of Steel captured the core of Superman so well, then why does the film carry so much controversy and debate regarding decisions that Superman makes throughout the film. Why does Clark do so many un-Superman like things if it captures the very core of what Superman is.

I remain baffled at the low rating for this movie on RT. However, this puts the whole thing in perspective and shows why MOS' RT rating is complete bull shite.

Comparing it to other films does not put the "whole thing in perspective". Just because another film may have slipped through and received a higher rating, doesn't mean MoS should. 56% is being generous, IMHO.

Did you think Transformers was a great film? MoS was practically Transformers with a slightly better story and shittier cinematography and special effects.

The film itself had potential to be spectacular, and I think the two main factors that made this movie borderline generic were: using only one writer and Snyder's directorial style. It was apparent by the story that it was the product of a one writer system. The story itself seemed as if it never made it past the first draft. At least one other credible writer should have been hired to polish the script.

Then there's Snyder and the cinematographer's godawful style. Despite the decent special effects, the cinematography itself looked amateurish. Considering the massive budget, why did it look like I was watching an independent film that was shot with a cheap $200 Wal-Mart camera? But I guess that's the price you pay when you hire a director who has only filmed live-action cartoons to shoot a live action film.

The entire film felt like a bad acid trip.

Naturally the new one, because it's new.

Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness have a higher viewer rating than Star Trek II: Wrath of Kahn.

Are we going to start saying that Wrath of Kahn is not as good as the newer films?

I'm pretty sure Transformers had a higher viewer rating than say... The Departed, or Casino Royale. Does that make Transformers the better film?

Of course, if you liked MoS you probably hate TD and CR considering only fricking retards like dumpster diving.

7 years apart vs 30

What an asinine comparison

I can't believe you're so stubborn to continue this shite.

What does that have to do with anything?

Okay, The Amazing Spider Man has a higher viewer rating than the 2002 Spiderman, does that make it better? Do more people like The Amazing Spider Man more?

Transformers doesn't have a higher rating than either The Departed or Casino Royale.

Regardless, he's arguing that more people liked Superman Returns. He has no argument.

That's not being disputed. There's no real way to determine that.

I would say that's pretty strong evidence that they do.
