so we're on the verge of finally getting closer to a pay for what you watch system.. and the networks are going to try and hold internet TV service providers hostage until they agree to bundle like cable already does? frick that bull shite.

frick cable, directv, comcast, etc.

biggest money scam going on right now

with all the technology we have today, we should be paying the ESPNs, food networks, CBS, etc directly instead of using these middle men with shitty customer service and constant price increases

yep. there's actually a shite ton of middle men in our economy that need to be kicked the frick out of it. the beer distributing industry is a prime example.

re: ESPN Exec is Open to idea of IPTV
as long corporate america continues to run the country, we will see no changes anytime soon

i'm not familiar with other countries' politics, but nothing makes me more mad about america than corporate fricks...and I work for a fortune 500 company so I support all this riff-raff

Corporate America cares about one thing and one thing only: Its stock price. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Don't waste your time working for any publicly traded company. They don't care about you at all. Never have, never will. Work for a privately owned company that needs you more than you need them and you'll always be happy.

As for a la carte tv channels. That shite will never happen and if you want your tv shows for cheap, then you should never ever want it to happen.

Not totally on board with those sentiments, but the recent JC Penney fiasco points to you having at least somewhat of a point.

Y'all need to go read Clay Travis' recent article on this subject. A la catre TV is bad in his opinion because the cost of ESPN alone would be $30. That doesn't include the entire ESPN network just ESPN. Basically he says non-sports watchers are subsidizing the high cost of sports TV.

agreed BUT who will pay for the equipment, installation, delivery lines or dish etc... gotta be an end contractor of some sort to get it from network to user.

In BR I think a lot of blame goes to the city council and this BS awarding exclusive right to 1 cable company for years at a time..

I cut the cord 2 yrs ago and use 30' hd antenna outside, roku and wdtv live combined with usenet and torrents. only pay for netflix but only watch original programming on it mostly. BUTTT during football season i do get cox and then kill em after super bowl. Still haven't found a QUALITY way to view football.. Cox game me a deal of $53 a month for 6 months, so I will soak that up for football

I used to do work for a data/cable provider. If you think your data from the internets magically appears through the air, you no understand. All those fiber and copper lines that they have to run to every inch of the city underground weren't cheap, as well as all the hardware to make those lines worky weren't cheap either. If you think that cable/data providers are going to let a pay per channel happen, you're fooling yourself. They'll just throttle your internet and charge you more for it.

This is true... In addition, most providers are required to pay franchise fees that are used to pay "rent" for the public land they are using to run the infrastructure needed to distribute their product(s). This cost is not going away... and neither is the idea that private companies will have to pay for the use of public property (rights-of-way, airwaves, etc.) to distribute services.

One interesting side note... I can see how ESPN might be more favorable to this idea earlier than everyone else. If you think about it, their infrastructure to deliver their product 100% online is pretty much already there. The Watch ESPN app, ESPN3 stream, along with streams of their other networks are already in place. You would have to assume that while there would be significant investments needed, ESPN is far ahead of anyone else if the decision were to be made today.

So, who's gonna come setup the infrastructure for the services you have today? Fiber, Copper, Cable modems, Wireless, and the hardware to support all that? Who's gonna fix it when it breaks or a hurricane rolls through? ESPN gonna come troubleshoot your modem issue?

Way to bring logic into an argument that always comes up filled with ignorance.

People think the internet is free and just magically pops into their electronic devices without any costs.
