Birthday Dinner Recommendations

So the wife's birthday is tomorrow and I would like to cook a nice dinner but I'm drawing a blank as to what to make.

We will be dining at ruffinos Saturday but I want to make something for her tomorrow.

What does the FDB suggest? How would you guys like to pick her birthday meal?

I can't help you. Mine would prefer a bottle of wine and some sleep. Sleep is at a premium with a 6 month old in the house.

How much time do you have to cook? What does your wife like to eat? Does your wife like your cooking?

re: Birthday Dinner Recommendations
A nice classic roasted chicken, some roasted vegetables, a nice salad and a good bottle of wine.

Agree with some of DF's questions. What are her favorite foods and how much time do you have?

Does that include crab, shrimp, crawfish?

You'd be cutting it close, but you could do this beef bourguignon. It's excellent. I don't serve it over bread, though. Could do pasta or mashed potatoes if she prefers that or just bread on the side with some roasted asparagus.

I like the veal chop idea. I love veal chops, though. Maybe a blue cheese butter, creamed spinach or roasted asparagus.

My broad doesn't care for beef or pork, and is picky about any meat in general, so something like an eggplant parmesan would be something I would do for her. What about lasagna?

Chicken Parmesan with a side of pasta, garlic bread, and a Caesar salad.

Duck breast with some kind of sauce, mashed potatoes, side of asparagus.

Whazzup with all of those incredibly heavy selections? It's way too damn hot for boeuf bourg; it's August, dammit. Ditto on the carbonara. How about gazpacho, a watermelon & feta salad, and some nice lamb kebabs? Make a coffee granita for dessert. Easy as hell, light, refreshing, and won't put anyone into a food coma w/loads of animal fat, dairy, or salt.

Or go with chilled sesame noodles, seared tuna, and an asian slaw. Serve small scoops of vanilla gelato topped with limoncello for dessert.

I have air conditioning. I ate gumbo twice last week. Also, these are foods I happen to enjoy. I don't want gazpacho for dinner. I eat light for lunch.
