So you don't think you should have to start out in a lowly entry level position like everyone else?

Sadly I (and several of my friends) went through a similar situation when finishing up graduate school. I emailed several people's email trashboxes and submitted applications to blackholes. Thankfully a collaborator knew about a job opening and contacted them for me (after I had contacted them and got no response). Start in a few weeks

If that's what we consider a real job, then I can include concessions, rec center, Abercrombie, and 3 different restaurants to the list prior to joining the Navy.

How did you go about obtaining your first job? Any tips for a noob?

If there is a professional organization in your field join it and start networking. You may have to look for an internship as well. Even if the internship is unpaid, get a job doing whatever you need to pay the bills and use the internship as experience in your field.

I hate the cyber black hole that I'm sure most resumes disappear into. Good luck.

Sent in my resume. Got the job. That's about it. Working in the same field I graduated in during the summer and holidays help tremulously. Good experience trumps a college degree. Having both and being good at what you do trumps a lot of people competing with you in the same field.

I worked an internship this summer and am continuing to work part time for the company while I finish this last semester.

I have no problem starting at an lower entry position. The difficulty is finding an entry position in the field I want.

One problem with graduating in Biomedical Engineering is that it is still pretty broad and some of the fields I would like to work in want a PhD. I am finishing my master's.

I worked with nanotechnology in my internship this summer, so I would be interested in that field or R&D at an orthopedic company.

Kept in touch with my department head he kept me updated on job opportunities. Actually he was the one that sent my résumé to the current company I work for (first job out of school)

I see many reports about how the career of being a biomedical engineer is one of the highest growing, but I believe that is because to say you are a biomedical engineer can mean many different things.

You could be developing prosthetics, drugs, implants, pacemakers, defibrillators, working with tissue engineering, etc.

That can definitely be a problem (similar in physics). Of course some positions my friends are looking at won't take a PhD.

Are you in Baton Rouge? I'm sure Pennington would hire you with a master in BE.
