you said Ford copied the hemispherical combustion chamber design from Chrysler. They were developed at the same time.
Actually they both stole the design from early Italian car makers like Fiat.

I limited my list to motors I have owned.

and some Italian motors that are hot shite.

I have seen one person mention the Chevrolet LSx engines.

What Chevy has managed to do with the LSx while STILL using pushrods and 2 valves per cylinder is incredible to me.

The 7.0 LS7 from the Corvette C6Z06 revved to 7000rpm. That would've been UNHEARD of in the old pushrod days.

The 6.2l supercharged LS9 in the Corvette ZR1 makes 638hp on low pressure and low revs. I think it redlines near the 6.5k mark.

Now these LS engines also have dry sump oiling systems, making them more amazing for the track.

And in the new C7, Chevy has managed to put in variable valve timing AND direct injection into a pushrod V8. 460 horsepower from the base model... WOW.

And I'm surprised no one mentioned the DOHC 4.6L from the 2003-2004 Mustang SVT Cobra. That engine has such a big power potential it's ridiculous. It was rated at 390hp from the factory when they knew for a fact it made more. The sound of a high-compression Kenne Belle supercharger will make your hair stand up.

I'm a fan of American V8s if you can't tell...

Since all of my favorite motors have already been named, I want to add one that started it all. Your grandads & dads wanted it. Gangsters and bootleggers wanted it too. Police loved it, but they hated it when yours was faster. Early dirt racers loved it because it was simple, cheap and parts could be had easily. It was not pretty, but with a little technical knowledge, the power could be boosted with little effort and hold its own with anything on the street in its day.

Bulletproof.



318. Not that Magnum crap. I have one with 344k on it, runs like a top.



Toyota 22R. You have to work HARD to frick this one up!



International 345. Tough as nails.



Cummins 5.9L (12 valve) This motherfricker will pull the stink off of shit!

The GM 6.2 gas motor is the best gas motor in production today, IMHO.

Flat out bulletproof.

I meant to make mention of those but forgot, lol. Agree with everything you said though. GM and Chrysler seem to be the only companies left mixing the latest technology with old school pushrod motors. Everyone else is going to small displacement FI and/or overhead cam setups...nothing wrong with that...but I love my 3rd gen hemi motors...also love the sound of an LS with a big ole cam in it.
