It was a simple engine that made tons of power with the turbo. Great engine. Hard to argue about the new Ls, Hemi, and Coyote engines either. Really world's apart from the older ones.

Mercedes-Benz M156 6209cc DOHC V8. If you ask me its one of the best-sounding engines ever made, and it makes incredible power. From 450 in the C63 to 622 in the SLS Black.

And I had completely forgotten Lotus was involved in designing it.

Which wasn't very many races due to it getting banned and Fords lack of development for it. Every top fuel dragster on the strip today uses a variation of the original 426. There is something to be said for that.

I agree 1,000,000%.

I almost pulled the trigger on a C63 not long ago, but better senses prevailed

I also loveeeeee the old 4.6 or 4.7 Maserati V8's. Incredible sound.

I could care less about Ford vs Dodge. I'm just saying its almost impossible to deny that the 426 is one of the best motors of all time. There is a reason hardly anyone knows about the cammer and everyone knows what a 426 hemi is.

ETA: and who's heads do you suppose Ford was aiming to copy when they designed those?
