Consumption is female based.

Excepting sports cars, high dollar SUVs/trucks, hunting/fishing and boats which are dominated by male spending. Women tend to make a lot of smaller purchases that aggregate into a lot of $, men pull the trigger on high $ shite.

Compulsive spending isn't limited to women.

Most of the shite we spend on is to impress women though.

This thread is what is wrong with this country. This is why no one works in the fields and everyone wants white collared jobs. If you can't make it on 2 public school teachers salaries then.... You got to much shite

Sorry if I don't deem " making it" as "the perfect salary", you know, the actual question.

If everyone had your mentality we would be living in the Stone Age right now. What do you even mean "no one works in the fields"? There's so much fail going on in your post.

I sort of get his point. The people saying $100-120 isn't enough seem pretty out of touch. You could live in a nice neighborhood, in a good public school district, and drive decent vehicles, and afford insurance, and a vacation and some mini-trips and be fine. If that life is "beneath" you, then yes, you probably have issues.

Question was perfect salary. Not minimum to be happy. 100k would be plenty for that. But perfect implies having much more.

Agreed, personally I feel if we as a family could ever gross 120k, we'd be rolling in dough for us.

I'm frugal as hell. I feel 85k gross with one child will be possible to meet our retirement goals etc. It will be much harder when my wife wants a car in a year or two.

Luckily, cost of living is low in my area.

Thats why I pegged in the 70-100k as being well off.

That easily affords you a 250k mortgage, a nice car, spending money, and putting away a few thousand a month.

There is no way you're doing all that on 70k.

People openly and most of the time honestly discuss their money situation/issues on here. Thats what this board is for. I think you're wrong on the bragging part.

Depends a lot on your location. In the Bay Area

Age 25 - 100 to 120k

Age 35 - 150 to 175k

Age 40 - 200+

Base salary only. Bonus and equity are a big deal here and on top of base.

There's a way to participate in a discussion and there's a way to participate while still being a douche.

Openly talking about your income/status is fine, but if you make $100k in your 20's you should be smart enough to know that's well above not only your peers but most degree-earning Americans.

re: Perfect Annual Salary?

Two years ago I was single and made just above 100k. I did anything I wanted and still put tons in the 401k and savings.

Fast forward to today and I'm married with two babies and the same salary. We still live comfortably but I have to pay more attention to the checking account. My house also shrunk dramatically. I'm sweating taking on a larger house note and paying for tuition in a few years.
