re: USA Basketball Game Thread

First time I'd ever watched him in earnest when not playing against, and dominating, us.

Hearing about his flaws isn't the same as seeing them. Made them more real. Want nothing to do with him now.

I've said this for awhile. People are blinded by talent. They say "we can change him".

We can't. No one can. Dude is a head case.

If AD is able to play the perimeter like this, do we need ryno that much? Asik could be a very solid addition, just sayin

It's less that I don't think we or anyone can, I don't think he's worth the time. I saw things that disgusted me. Same sorts of things I've seen in guys like Rajon Rondo or Blake Griffin. Either one of those guys gets near my team, I just flat out would not like them.

Everyone who thinks Asik for Anderson straight up is a good trade should hurt themselves

re: USA Basketball Game Thread

AD was off the hook. Sweet outside shot & jumpers. Altered a shitload of shots. The white team made most of their runs when AD hit the bench. That mid-air steal and then going coast-to-coast reminded me of a similar play Shawn Kemp made way back when. AD was solid at the FT line as well.

Ryno gonna Ryno. Effortless 3's but ineffective defense. Although he did have a couple of hands in the face defensive attempts where his man missed the shots.

Can't wait to see Jrue with EG, Ryan, AD, and Tyreke. He can get the ball to scorers. His outside shot has always been his weakest part, but he can drive and finish. Solid pesky defense.

Irving was as stellar as I expected but I was really shocked how good Barnes is now. Gonna be a star one day. Wall and Conley had their moments, too.

Cousins was an obvious disappointment , but I saw nothing really special from Drummond, DeAndre Jordan, Parsons or Zeller either.

It was clear Irving & AD were the two names in this game that moved to the top of the list of potential USA prospects.

11 and 6 in nine minutes.

...didn't watch the game though, unfortunately.

AD can be great at everything...ridiculously special talent...excited about his future.

It was very workman-like. Nothing "sexy" about it that screamed he should be on the USA team.

Drummond would get it in the post, get his shot blocked, then lay the loose ball up. Or he'd be the only one under the goal for a rebound after a missed 3-pt-er or a missed FT attempt by the other team. Multiple times he had the ball stripped from him. Doesn't seem to have strong hands. Defensively, he didn't seem all that dominant either in this game. Looked kind of plodding when Cousins blew past him.

Don't get me wrong. I'd take him as a tandem with AD, but I think Greg Monroe is the more advanced player on both ends of the court than Drummond. Monroe had like 3 defensive stops in a row, then made a sweet spinning post move.

I agree that drummond did not look great yesterday, but he was the youngest (or 2nd behind MKG) player in the NBA last year. The athletic ability is apparent, he just needs time to develop.

re: USA Basketball Game Thread

Article from Jim Eichenhofer on the Pelicans in game last night.

quote:

• Davis was the Blue team’s best player, with 22 points and seven rebounds, highlighted by 10-for-13 shooting from the field. The second-year pro narrowly missed game scoring honors, but Kyrie Irving (23 points) dropped in a pair of fourth-quarter free throws with the outcome already decided. Davis was impressive on the offensive end all game, dropping in a handful of 20-foot jumpers, while also throwing down three dunks. In a SportsCenter-worthy sequence, Davis snatched a White team alley oop pass out of the air, dribbled the length of the court and glided in for a slam. "As good as he was last year, he's just stepped it up another couple levels," USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "That was exciting to see. He got better throughout the week, and put on a heck of a performance tonight."

• Holiday didn’t have a great shooting night (6-for-13) and started slowly, but was a key to the White team’s victory with an all-around display consisting of 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. "He's a guy that can change the game without scoring," Monty Williams said. "People don't recognize that, because he's scored so much last year. His main asset, in my opinion, is his versatility as a big guard." The former Philadelphia point guard is known around the NBA for having one of the best left hands in the league, something he repeatedly relied upon Thursday on finishes at the rim.

A lost art in the fundamentals dept.

He and Irving were dynamite with their use of the left, driving left. Gives you, at worst, body width distance from the defender in the paint.

Are you listening, Rivers?

Tough to really see a lot from Jrue because he is always on the floor with Kyrie

Monty is smart, he realizes that the PG position is stacked, and if Jrue is going to make the team, then he will have to play SG mostly because there are no real SG's out there besides Harden.
