Chippaquiddick incident- 44 years ago today.

Ted Kennedy drives a car off chappaquiddick Island, looks into the horrified eyes of Mary Jo Kopechne, and swims away, leaving her to die in the tidal channel.

Democratic party reveres him to this day, and had the despicable gall to allow him to show his face at their conventions. Talk about a war on women.

It's worth remembering.

Reminds me of the old story about Ted...

He was interviewing a young woman for the position of personal assistant to him.

He told the young lady that there might be long hours and even overnight stays - she said she was okay with that.

He also told her there might be times they have to share adjoining hotel rooms and possibly even have to stay in the same room at times - she said she would be okay with that but that they were adults and could manage properly.

He then told her there might be times when they've had too much to drink and if staying in the same hotel room, they could even end up sleeping together - she told him she understood but what if she became pregnant.

He said well, we'll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it...

I won't say it was murder, but he definitely let her die for whatever reason. Bill Maher called what he did "unforgivable" when Chris Matthews was on his show...I don't think Mr. Tingle liked that very much.

Some years ago I seem to remember Ted and another senator in a heated debate. The senator said something to Kennedy like " if you believe that I have a bridge to sale you". He might not have been referring to chapiquiddack but tha is how I took it. Pretty ballsy of the senator. The Kennedy's were the original elitist POS.

I heard on the radio yesterday that the bridge had been destroyed. (Don't know if true - my only source.)

They didn't want Ted to have to be reminded of the incident.

I heard the same thing. I think it probably had more to do with tourist going to visit the spot.

Wasn't sure. Didn't catch it live...only heard about it after it was suggested that Hatch was referring to Chappaquiddick.

Probably just a bad choice of words. They were friends so I don't think Hatch went there intentionally.

I just googled "senatorial privilege" the book about the chappaquidick incident. It was release in 1989 (very good book). Clarence Thomas was appointed in 1991. So the incident was stilll very fresh on a lot of people's minds.

I think so too, but did they tear down the Watergate facility?

I totally agree with removing the physical structures involved with huge terrorist events like the federal building in Oklahoma and the Sandy Hook school.

But, just because it reminds people of what a piece of shite some politician is, why remove it?

It was removed because of tourists all right - but it was to keep them from thinking how pathetic Ted Kennedy is as a man.

Why - some opponent may even give a speech from there!!!! - cannot allow reality to be part of a political campaign.
