re: Your starting secondary

I don't see Brazil staying on defense. The offense needs his explosiveness. Robinson could be the next great corner. White will eventually start somewhere. The defensive backfield broke down several times last year. If the Tigers are going competitive and challenge for the SEC., this group has to improve as a whole.

Craziest part to me is that Kevin Tolliver will be the best of all of them on day 1. Kid will start as a true freshman at LSU. He is PP7 reincarnate.

White, Loston, Martin, Mills. Collins still your nickel, Eugene still your dime. Robinson's rise will be delayed by his late arrival.

Wasn't Collins the nickel and Eugene the dime?

Possibly but that wasn't a set thing. The most important thing is that Simon is gone. Addition by subtraction.

Between Mills, Collins, Thomas, Holmes, White, and Robinson, we'll have a lot of good options.

I just hope Mills and Collins learn some lessons from the Clemson debacle. We threw three corners at Hopkins and nobody could even so much as slow him down.

It was the first year playing for both Mills and Collins, so hopefully they gained some valuable experience.

Collins to me is the odd man out eventually. If Robinson figures it out quickly -- we know Tre'Davious will because he's a damn valedictorian, so learning Chavis' defense will be nothing for him -- then I think Collins is gonzo. Or maybe that threat will make him step up his game x10.

If that freshman is better why not. I like Mills, much more than Collins, but as you say there were those mistakes that must be corrected. Most do after a freshman year but we'll see.

Mills started more ganes as a frosh than peterson. But yeah peterson and claiborne never made mistakes in their careers at LSU.

This is dumb. Collins won't go lower than the 3rd cb.

RR weighs 175 and has missed the whole summer. Unless he's all world, I doubt he comes in and starts or jumps Collins

Exactly. He was a RS freshman last year and only had a few bad games. Yet people act like he was the weak link in defense, even though Simon and Reid gave up more big plays. Collins finished 2nd on the team in pass deflections and caused 4 turnovers in his first year playing. He purposely deflected two passes for picks. Absolutely genius plays by a young player.

He's ranked as the 2nd best CB in the 2016 class for a reason. His NFL potential is huge. He just needs to put it all together. It's perfectly reasonable to assume that he'll progress in his second year playing.

As far as safety goes, losing Reid will probably be a plus IMO. He stunk last year.

i have to challenge this because of how high he was drafted. it seems the pros in the nfl disagree also. imo, reid found himself amongst youngsters w/o experience and was often trying to do too much. he practiced with them every day and knew what they could do and even more importantly what they couldn't do.

His biggest problem was taking bad angles. A lot of that is on him and not the younger players.

you and the moustache guy think alike that's for sure. while i agree that simon didn't live up to his billing the pro's still thought pretty highly of him. the secondary is a team within a team and both simon and reid really had some babies and their mistakes to overcome. tv is possibly the culprit due to the way games follow the ball. it is difficult to tell who fricks up in the secondary. i think simon would have looked much better with a better secondary last year.

Based on what from Collins body of work?

The one assumption I make here is Robinson is as good as advertised. I have serious questions about Collins and think it won't be hard, given the level LSU is recruiting DBs on, to find somebody who is PHYSICALLY much better. Collins struggled to turn and run with receivers last year at times.

Given that, I hear that Robinson's coverage skills are much better, I'd say Collins is in some trouble and needs a damn strong August.

We "hear" these things about every db we sign. Collins is 6'2 195 and physical enough for a cb. He was a FRESHMAN last season.

Yet you wanna replace him with a 6'3 170 pound true freshman because of physicality and speculated better cover skills?
