This would make me feel more way more sympathy for the guy than the RS cover.

Actually, you make a good point. The insouciant, arrogant looking punk in the photo actually used RS should make people far less sympathetic toward him and find him even more disgusting.

Because I was early referring to the professional head shots of the two shooters.
Of course you were.
That's the point!

In defending the Rolling Stones' "Fluffed and Buffed" Tsarnaev glamor image cover, you're ignoring a lack of juxtaposed horrific criminal imagery, or images of the victims. You're apparently oblivious to the difference. Just as you were apparently oblivious to the victims' images on the Time cover as you addressed its imagery.

You were told you should be outraged, so be outraged or you're just as big a monster as he is.

You're basically arguing they should not have shown the guy before he turned into a fricking killer
I get it.
It's just a picture.
No big deal.
Every one should just "deal with it."

Perhaps it offends the victims, but what's the harm in that?
Others are not offended.
You are not offended.
No one who is not a tight arse (maybe besides the victims and their families) is offended.
I get it.
I do.

Glamorization of Tsarnaev does not bother you.
I get it.
Good for you.
Seriously.
Congrats!
. . . . and if glamorization of Tsarnaev doesn't bother you, why should it bother anyone?
I get it.
I do.

It's a totally innocent cover photo.
As is the typical case with cover photos, it was not intended to send any message.
What is the big deal?

Tolerance is sophistication.
Sophistication is progressive.
Freedom of Speech, yadayadayada . . . .
It's just an image of a kid.

Good for you, clap, clap, clap.

So, seriously, what, from an editorial standpoint, was the "message" that RS was sending?

they were going for the "he was a normal kid" angle, which is fine, but they went with an unduly glamorizing picture

perhaps this will help illustrate the issue? I doubt RS is unaware of this

quote:

You're basically arguing they should not have shown the guy before he turned into a fricking killer

not at all

the pic NC Tigah posted with him wearing the hat would have worked fine

this one is pretty obviously glamorizing the bad boy to be 2edgy and get attention and sales

EDIT: well, stylistically would have worked fine. that picture was pretty shite quality, they'd need another. but you get the point I think

re: Rolling Stones and Tsarnaev cover: I don't get the big deal

I was the first to start a thread on this here. I simply posed questions and questioned the wisdom and moral bearing of people who would PACKAGE AN IMAGE FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION IN SUCH AN ICONIC MANNER.

No one really HONESTLY debated it. Instead it was met with Strawmen Armies about "outrage " and "censorship" and 100 other things. But all the proponents of the article shy away from The Iconic Pop Celebrity Culture aspect of this, and how that is diminishing our society.

And there is NO DOUBT that some of our board's most FUNDAMENTALIST LEFTIST posters absolutely HATE AND REVILE ME for bringing it up. I have no doubt they have more antipathy and disgust for me that Tsarnaev. No doubt about that whatsoever.

There's a coolness associated with being on the cover of Rolling Stone that I've never understood because they have an history of putting very uncool people on their cover. But nonetheless that perception exists.

The perception of hip and the flattering photo are probably the issues most have with this cover.
