Abandoned luxury cars all over Dubai

Saw this article a little while ago. Apparently Dubai's booming oil market has crippled some, so people are just leaving the country and leaving their high-end vehicles all over the place, from airport parking lots to simply on the side of the road.

Nice work, Dubai.

Article even says police seized an abandoned Ferrari Enzo (only 400 total were made) from a parking lot after it had sat there for a few months untouched.

Crazy.

Thousands of the finest automobiles ever made are now being abandoned every year since Dubai’s financial meltdown, left by expatriates and locals alike who flee in a hurry because they face crippling debts. With big loans to repay to the banks (unpaid debt or even bouncing a cheque is a criminal offence in Dubai), the panicked car owners make their way to the airport at top speeds and leave their vehicles in the car park, hopping on the next flight out of there, never to return.

At least that shows that people in Dubai respect other people's property. That car would have lasted about 4 hours untouched in a Los Angeles parking lot.

This was a real problem after the global recession because dubai was expanding like crazy.

The problem is when you can't pay your bills, you don't talk it out.

You go to jail....till your debts are paid. So people were just leaving their shite wherever and getting the frick out of the country.

That's the first thing I thought too. But the article does mention that unpaid debt is a punishable offense over there, so something tells me if you get busted with a car like that and it's not yours (and it also still hasn't been paid off), you'd likely get into some serious trouble. So maybe that's why?

Still seems like someone would black market that thing or something though...

i read this story a while back, it's hard to imagine an Enzo sitting exposed like that, they are getting EXTREMELY coveted. My first thought it something is up with this story, but this is the country that has land yet decided to build in the sea.

I can appreciate what the Delorian is as an icon because of that movie, but to group it with Porsche, Ferrari and Mercedes is crazy
