I like your thinking.

The only issue I have is that it makes this guy seem like a celebrity.

RS was trying to do two things.

1) Give him a very humane image.

2) Create controversy to get free exposure.

1 probably has as much to do with 2 as anything else.

I'm just of the opinion that the very existence of these individuals should be erased from human history.

Well, thats like your opinion. So write about it in your magazine, because you have the freedom to do that, remember?

How so? They literally call him a 'monster' on the front cover.

The point is that they are investigating how a seemingly 'normal' kid (which the cover depicts) can turn into someone so maniacal.

They called Manson "dangerous" yet people bought t-shirts with his image on them.

AGAIN, most have no problem with the article. They problem stems from the rockstar like cover photo. That's it.

And blame his family.

"Promising student failed by his family.." stood out to me.

I guess it wasn't his fault after all.

You can't analyze one without the other. In the context of the article and the title on the FRONT PAGE, the photo makes complete sense.

If they had that same photo, and all they talked about was some recap of the Boston Bombing incident, then it would make no sense. It wouldn't be a cohesive message. In that case, I could understand the outrage.

So I haven't read the full article yet, so I can't deny your assertion.

And I think the problem with the cover is just an overreaction. You know, kind of like the Zimmerman trial.

I think the picture makes him look like a rock star which is creepy.

Outside of that, I'm fine.

Actually, I disagree with you on this point. For you and many on this board your statement would be true. For many others they only see the picture and never read the article.

Lol. It's sad but very true. From those who are outraged to those that think he's dreamy.

re: Rolling Stones and Tsarnaev cover: I don't get the big deal
I went to high school outside of Boston.

It's important to understand why the attack occurred, how they were radicalized. That said, no one wants to give Tsarnaev a pedestal to stand on or to give him more credit than is necessary. That in part an emotional reaction, but also think of Bin Laden and how we turned him into an nearly mythological figure after 9/11.

-

Rolling Stone is angling for a reaction, and that's also part of it. They want controversy, they want to sell magazines, and Bostonians have little taste for that. It's exploitative.

Rolling Stone is fairly irrelevant, they're just trying to stir up publicity and boost sales. The only troubling thing from a societal perspective are the idiots who romanticize this murderer.
