Trayvon protesters going to Houston's most expensive neighborhood

What exactly does this accomplish? The rich people didn't kill trayvon so why are you bringing poor black people who have no business in this gorgeous neighborhood their to protest? I really don't get what black people are after right now. If it's equality, they had my respect for the last 27 years or so since I was a kid and school and had black friends my whole life, but they are losing it very quickly, sure many good ones remain, but I just lost a tremendous amount of respect for the community as a whole these past few days bc of antics like this

I would bring out my expensive guns and invite all my friends and their expensive guns over for a BBQ.

Quanell X had a message for the counter protesters: "I look forward to meeting those that support Zimmerman. They have rights and I encourage them to do so. We will support Trayvon Martin without fear and without compromise, and I guarantee them we will be supporting Trayvon on Sunday.

i'm sure he appreciates their support from his grave.

these people need to get a fricking life and go volunteer at an inner city youth camp or something where they may actually be able to make a difference.

Here's the part I don't get:

quote:

Houston community activist Quanell X plans to lead a march this weekend in the River Oaks community to protest a Florida jury's acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Shouldn't people be protesting in...Florida? Even if I agreed with the protests, other than sheer laziness why protest a jury's decision 5 states away?

"For many years young black men from the traditional Fourth Ward were told to don't even go toward River Oaks," Quanell X said. "I can't think of a better community in Houston to (demonstrate to) bring down the pernicious image of African American men and to stop racial profiling."

I'm sure this will help.

Not really.

They're reinforcing the stereotypes when they form into large groups and some decide to vandalize or become violent.

I can think of a better community to demonstrate in.....your crappy black neighborhoods. Those have a pretty bad image.

They better not frick around over there. Peaceful is fine but one mutherfricker steps out of line and the national guard will show up quickly.

re: Trayvon protesters going to Houston's most expensive neighborhood
bc none of the NBA players live in River Oaks. The property taxes alone on a $10M home are $300k/year. Muhammad Ali was famously rejected 30 years ago, and overall there's probably just a handful of black people in that neighborhood. All the homes are north of $2-3M, and typically the athletes live outside of Houston in the suburbs in big mansions that cost less than these.

It's an area of old money, and I don't know what quannel x is trying to prove by pissing off the people that run houston. You think that will make them more or less sympathetic the next time a black person wants a job from them?
