Saban honestly never left any that come to mind, his team either won it all or wasn't good enough to be in title discussions.... Take that as what you will

to have keft championships on the table means we had to have a team capable of one. You cant fault miles for building teams capable of winning and raising the expectations of the fanbase. which is what hes done.

saban had teams capable yet won 1. i can excuse 2002 because mauk got hurt. but 04 was a talented team and we had no qb, switching between randall and jmarc.

Id say that OL attrition hurt him overall more than QB development. We had absolutely no depth in our down years and it affected the clock in JJ/JL's head

re: So.... How many NCs did Les leave on the table?

Since Les took over in 2005 LSU fans expectations have been a national title every year but 08 and 09

So that's expectations of 6 titles in 8 years

I've been a fan for 45 years. The fan base never had those kind of expectations in the other 37 years.

So if anything, the man has raised the expectations to a all-time high. Reading about LSU football history, the program has never had that kind of sustained period of "want" from the fanbase.

You are free to take that as you like.

JJ had no pocket presence. He didn't realize he was about to get hit till he was half way to the ground. Lee did fine in 11 but throwing picks in the UA game and getting that 'I don't know what the hell is going on' look pretty much finished that. Like I said, the HC is directly responsible for staff hires and ultimately responsible for recruiting. We'll see if Cameron can do the deal. I think he will.

Yeah, but Gonzales, then Krags, then Mett were also supposed to fix things. Gonna stay cautiously optimistic

re: So.... How many NCs did Les leave on the table?

0-1
He did the right thing with Perriloux it may have cost us that year but it was the right thing to do. Jim Tressel wishes he had the same integrity and morals as Miles.

That Alabama team of 2011 may have been the best team ever. They were rewarded for losing to us at home. We get penalized by having to play an extra game in Atlanta against Georgia who runs a 3-4 defense like Alabama does. What a huge advantage for Bama; no risk of injury and the team u are going to play has to roll out its entire game plan against the GA 3-4 while you get to see what they are trying to do and will try to do against your 3-4. But it was Ga's success early on defense that caught Bama's eyes. Ga had a terrific game plan on how to stop the LSU offense. Saban is not the coach to face with such an unfair advantage. He and the revenge minded Tide took full advantage. Im not sure with our QB play that any coach wouldve beat Alabama that night under those same circumstances. I wouldve changed QB's but I dont really believe it wouldve made a difference and most likely wouldve turned the game into a rout.

I do think last year he was at least 50% responsible for the Alabama loss. That wouldve left LSU A&M and Bama at 10-2 having beaten each other on their home fields. If LSU wouldve been given the SEC west crown then they still wouldve had to beat Ga. So possibly 1.
But when u figure in he had to replace his ALL SEC LT, 3 yr starting RT, 2 yr starting RG, his starting RB along with his Heisman finalist on defense, and then break in a new QB, it may have been his best year of coaching ever.

Whether Miles is at fault for discipline or Perriloux for putting himself above the team

Are you actually implying that perriloux being a dumb frick should be blamed on Les? He had to discipline the guy and I give Les a lot of credit for booting a key person on his team instead of letting him get away with the shite.

I give him all the crediting the world for making a difficult decision that set the program back YEARS. However, many like to point as les as having "discipline problems"

So... While debatable, I think even Rantards are accurate when they say Miles left 4 NCs on the table, but don't understand why this has to be an indictment against the man

Really? Your title seems to squarely place the blame on Miles.

Left 4 on the table? Wow! No coach has left 4 on the table in 8 years unless it is your fantasy team on EA Sports, Play Statin, 360, etc.

quote:

2008 - losses in defensive starters and Pelini, as well as the recruiting effects from the 2005 Miles/Saban transition caught up to the team. Nobody should have expected us to repeat this year, however

You left out we dismissed our starting quarterback right before the season started and were thus thrown into the Hatch/Lee/Jefferson situation.

quote:

2012 - We let Florida get away with one this year and played a hell of a game against Bama that really could have gone either way. Had Beckham not fumbled the long pass in the 4th or had the defense stood up at the end of Bama, we probably destroy ND.

We dismissed possibly our most electric player and game changer right before the season began.

So, I would say LSU, not miles, left one on the table in 2011 and that one should never have happened.

Lets hire back Hallman and the rest of the clowns between Les and Charlie Mac. One day you will all see that Les is the best coach in the history of football. Let start back the Les statue thread to make it happen.

Arnsparger was very good and Dinardo doesn't get the credit he should but at the end of the day, assuming Les stays till 2020 or so, it'll be Miles then everyone else, for LSU football.

Who doesn't have discipline problems with some players. He can't control what 85 18-23 year olds do all the time. At least we don't have players running around robbing people like some schools. I'd say kids getting in trouble for weed or getting in a bar fight is a win compared to what some of these players do on other coaches watch. Not saying this is what you think because I think you were just saying most will use that as an argument. All they have to do is look around the SEC and they'll find much worse discipline issues.

Contradicts your OP concerning '09, the worst LSU OL I'd seen in some time.
LSU didn't have near a good enough OL to win the SECW, much less NC.
<1600yds and 3.6ypc won't get it done.
Pass blocking was atrocious also allowing over 30 sacks and double that in hurries.

I'll say '06 and '11 was very possible, but '05 wasn't quite there and neither were '08, '10, and '12

'08 was just barely good enough run OL, but the D was down and suffered from TOs handing opp short fields.
I recall it being 18int for around 25yd avg and prolly disheartened the already maligned defense.

2010 OL shown flashes of 2011, but were inconsistent and the QBs were now worse off than when they signed.
This year supports "it affected the clock in JJ/JL's head", plus the development in the Wiz system hadn't seemed to help one bit , seemingly regressing.
Krags brouht both QBs quite a way out of that 2010 funk.

2012 I'd place OL close to 2008 run blocking's low 4s ypc, but maybe even 2009 level late, and 2009 pass blocking (30+ sacks both).
The OL ypc drop off last 4-5 games is disturbing and wouldn't sustain through SECG, playoff or NC game IMO.
I hope Cameron can straighten that out or he could have a rough initiation.
