re: Tyrus Thomas No Longer Has A Job

LSU athlete has great success at the university, gets paid, doesn't live up to the hope everyone has and now it's bashing time. God no wonder these guys want to get away. You people are pathetic. Take your old asses somewhere else and live vicariously through other 18 year olds.

I hope the highly touted recruits that Johnny Jones has coming in learn something from this. If Tyrus had played for a coach like Jones who would have actually taught him something and he would have stayed for three years then he would actually have a better pro career and make more money in the long run.

This is beyond ridiculous.
quote:

As Tyrus has learned you have to be more than a great athlete. You have to have skills that hopefully you will stick around long enough in college to master.

The greatest college coaches have pure athletes with no skills get drafted all the time.

No what's dumb is you not being smart enough to tell me why you thought it was dumb. Too hard to push down the keys, or you can't remember where the letters are? If you don't think players learn anything in college and don't improve their skills then I guess we can just fire the coaching staff and tell the players to just go out there and play pickup basketball and don't pass and play one on one.

You need to keep up with the discussion. It wasn't whether they get drafted but how long they last after that. What was ridiculous? You don't think CJJ can coach? Each to his opinion but I disagree.

Could the pelicans find some minutes for him on the cheap?

Don't want him. TT was exciting when he was on, but he doesn't bring anything the Pels don't already have in abundance.

re: Tyrus Thomas No Longer Has A Job

1. It's silly to say Jones' coaching would've kept him in the NBA when he coached one NBA player in his entire N. Texas tenure, and he hasn't even played a second in the league yet. Maybe he coached some during his short Memphis tenure but I doubt it was him that put them over the top.
2. More importantly even if Jones could've taught Tyrus the world at LSU that doesn't mean he'd return for a 3rd year when he was a lock to be a high lottery pick after his RFr year.

It's not questioning Jones' coaching at all. You can be a great college coach and have high drafted players who don't last long/don't contribute in the NBA.

Why can't they learn and improve their skills in the NBA?

his bad habits were formed at LSU

the pro game teaches you better skills, and more importantly, NBA skills (for the NBA game)

just because it's better doesn't mean college is worthless

Why can't they learn and improve their skills in the NBA?

I suppose they can but from what I have seen and read NBA coaches expect you to already know how to play. They spend all their practice time teaching you their system and how they want you to fit in. Of course, if a player is motivated, he could work out on his own but with all that money up front, what do you get? Oh yeah, the Tyrus Thomas syndrome. At least a college coach can keep on their butt and threaten to kick them off the team.

You have to recruit potential NBA players before you can coach them. I think everyone would agree that he has now done the recruiting and that the next few years will see how that plays out.

do you think CJJ is better than a NBA bball coach who gets way more time to work with a player?

Your line of thinking is flawed. You don't take the risk when you are going to be lottery pick. You realize he's been getting 8-9 million a year?

so you haven't seen or read anything?
