re: Zimmerman (Trayvons!) trial discussion thread. NOT GUILTY! Surprised?

Well, I don't think Zimmerman was protecting a damn thing, in this case. Has there been any evidence that Trayvon was staling anything?

I would quickly shoot to kill an unarmed attacker, but I don't go around hunting people and instigating stuff.

Zimmerman did great, right up until the moment he got out of the truck looking for a confrontation. Why put yourself in a position to use deadly force if you don't have to?
Now, if that numbnuts comes up to my truck, different deal.

I heard a very similar case in my CC class. Almost identical except the shooter was defending a cop getting assaulted by a guy that was roid raging. Took him years to clear his name in the civil suit. That case always stuck with me.

100% the reason you avoid firing at all costs.

Same one, I probably just messed it up.

quote:

You saw GZ nose and the back of his head right? It is pretty reasonable to assume he was in fear for his life.
It may be, but it is also reasonable to assume that he got into a physical altercation with another person and lost a fight. That isn't typically something that creates a reasonable fear of death or serious bodily harm. Getting in a fist fight with a teenager isn't by itself sufficient to meet the standard necessary for use of deadly force.

quote:

This would have never gone to trial had the media not labeled GZ as a white guy.

Maybe, maybe not. But had TM been a white hispanic and GZ had been black, GZ would have been arrested immediately and would be on trial with a less optimistic outlook than the real GZ has.

Is it me or does the judge overrule all of the defendant's objections and sustain all of the state's?

I agree that it was likely self-defense and that it is a joke that it ever made it to trial... with that said, I still don't have a lot of sympathy for GZ in this situation. He is far from flawless in the confrontation that ended another person's life.

Or he was just trying to keep the suspicious character in sight

I doubt he thought it would have gone down like it did. hearing his 911 tape he seemed quite calm. It wasn't as if he had an attitude about the situation....unlike TM.

I agree that he probably should not have pursued TM, but it is illegal to question what you perceive as nefarious characters in your neighborhood?

In hindsight, he shouldn't have instigated it.
But someone roaming around a gated community who doesn't live there has every right to be confronted and questioned and even told to gtfo.

she has been pro-state for sure

i was shocked the defense had an objection sustained with the surveillance guy, even though it was 100% correct (he was a records custodian and was giving expert opinions)

Completely disagree on this WDE24, and I don't do that often with you. But that's just propaganda.

If take the same situation, and make GZ black, with concealed carry permit, and homeowner watchman, calling police, etc. And make TM white or hispanic (can't believe you're buying into that white hispanic term like MSM)same age, with the same lifestyle that we know he had, same racist attitude displayed, let's say calling him the N word to his girl on phone, nothing changes. Nothing.

No, but it is illegal to provoke an altercation and then use deadly force without first exhausting all reasonably means of retreat or escape.

It is also illegal to shoot someone simply because they are beating you up.

Not saying this is what happened or that the state will be able to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt (because I doubt they will), but it seems like many in here accept, without much question, the story of a known liar who killed an unarmed teenager.
