Nope he will get an award in a few months and this will be largely ignored.

I wouldn't be upset if he was dropped by Cap1, but I don't care if they choose not to.

Same with Paula Deen's (former) sponsors. If that's what they deemed best for the company moving forward, so be it.

I do too, but I attribute most of that cleverness to whoever wrote them.

Calling someone a queen = calling someone the n word? Really?

Man Prince Charles' mom really gets no respect.

He said 'toxic little queen'

Why should there be uproar over this?

On one hand you folks say that Paula Deen shouldn't be in trouble, then turn around and say he should be?

Neither one should be. Or they both should be.

If you think Deen shouldn't, then you should think Baldwin shouldn't either. Or you're just as bad as the rest.

Yes, since they're both just words. Just words. I swear I will never understand being offended by a freaking word.

I agree. Save the outrage for something that is truly worth the fight. Like when the VP of the US openly insults an Indian man by making 7-11 slurpee remarks to his face or when he calls BO the first clean, articulate black candidate he's ever seen. Oh wait, there wasn't a giant uproar about that?

You definitely wouldn't be offended if someone said your mother/wife/daughter was a sloppy slut that gets dp'd by strangers regularly.

If someone said that to you when they walked past you in a grocery store, or at a bar, or maybe if they said it at your wedding, or your daughter's birthday party, or your mom's funeral. Those words wouldn't offend you even a little?

No, I personally have never felt even a twinge of anger over words. Now, if my girlfriend was hurt by the words I would take action. Not because of the words but because of her pain.

If I called my mom/sister/wife whatever those things than no I wouldn't be offended.

Just like blacks call each other the n word, they shouldn't get offended when others say it.

This, but I was using the Baldwin example to illustrate the double standard.

Not all man. No.

But I agree with your argument for the most part. It makes sense, more than the 'words don't hurt anyone ever' argument.

re: Alec Baldwin slings profanity-laced gay slurs on Twitter

IMO, Baldwin's general acceptance is pretty interesting example of what society values. I'm not calling for boycotts or bans, I believe in the free market. If companies what to hire him, that's their prerogative.

However, it amazes me that Baldwin is so sought after and gets so little grief. Capital One, and all his other sponsors see no problem paying Baldwin to represent them after all his recent episodes: daughter voicemail, flight attendant rant, punching a reporter, highly divisive political statements, racial slurs, anti-Semitic slurs, etc. I'm sure there are more. Now you got threatening rants and gay slang.

If nothing else, he comes across to me, at a minimum, as simply another entitled, rich a-hole detached from reality. Never mind his politics, with which I disagree.

Regardless of politics, I guess I just can't imagine sitting in a board room for a major company and saying, yeah, Baldwin is the guy we want!

But, because his politics are accepted by the establishment, and people like the character he plays on a show, it's a risk/reward analysis that favors rolling the dice on the unstable, anger-filled, political radical who insults nearly every demographic but his own.
