I love Seattle!

For a large metro, it's awesome. I get down there every few months. Company I used to work for had their vessels tied up on Lake Union and I used to stay there on a boat. Had some great times.

You were trying to be clever by quoting Tennessee Williams without citing him. The other poster was speaking about population.

I don't read. I was quoting Anthony Bourdain. Williams didn't include Chicago but did include New Orleans.

It's funny to see so many folks listing Seattle, given how hyped it was as a place about 20 or so years ago. It was basically Austin, before Austin was Austin (or, perhaps, what Austin wants to be).

For the record, I've never been, but always heard it's a pretty great place. Which is why I don't get how it is "underrated."

I think people just put it on the underrated list because it's so isolated from the rest of the country and seems to be easily forgotten about.

You're right. By the time I made the connection, I had forgotten the exact three cities you mentioned. Bourdain was copying Williams but needed to rep his West Coast fans.

Lots of the cities mentioned are great to visit (Portland Maine, Seattle, Ft Collins, etc) but not so great to live. I've been around and absolutely love life in the Queen City.

Did some people really put Baltimore? That place blows IMO.

I definitely do not consider Seattle, nor Portland to be underrated. Both of those cities are widely loved.

I think Portland is underrated because of it's comparison to Seattle. I think Portland is more liveable than Seattle - and I am familiar with both cities. Seattle may be bigger and more cosmopolitan, but Portland doesn't have the traffic and costs a lot less to live there.

Portland has a great vibe, awesome food, and more microbrews than anywhere else.

Speaking of Seattle weather, when we were there in 2009, we were in shorts and t shirts on the ferry outside and folks were all bundled up looking at us.

I'm like "It's 100 degrees in Louisiana right now. This feels great."
