What about Alec Baldwin? Didn't he use racial slurs just a few months ago?

This is a good example IMO. I'm not calling for boycotts, etc., and believe in the free market.

However, it amazes me that Baldwin is so sought after and gets so little grief. Capital One, and all his other sponsors see no problem paying Baldwin to represent them after all his recent episodes: daughter voicemail, flight attendant rant, punching a reporter, highly divisive political statements, racial slurs, anti-Semitic slurs, etc. I'm sure there are more.

If nothing else, he comes across to me as simply another entitled, rich a-hole detached from reality. Never mind his politics.

I guess I just can't imagine sitting in a board room for a major company and saying, yeah, Baldwin is the guy we want!

not true - it is ALL about his politics.

He is a true believer - a liberal to the core.

Nothing he does or says will raise an eyebrow in the media, and if a conservative tries to raise it the conservative will be accused of 'politics of personal destruction.'

It is all about political belief.

Maybe I watched the wrong video but what did she say that was wrong?

Maher was fired by ABC. He got another job with HBO.

HBO provides a much better platform for his show.

I agree. That's why he gets a pass, and I find it amazing his accepted politics trump being a dislikable ass. Maybe he's not dislikable, but I find him to be. I may be old fashioned, but go by the adage that you can tell a lot about someone by how they treat their waiter, or however that goes.

If it were say,

But what I don't understand is why would anyone "get a pass" when it comes to racism. If people are offended by white folks being racist, why would it matter if the white racist is a D or R? I mean, shouldn't racism just be racism. Or are they really not offended by the racism? So confusing.

Something else I just thought of with this is that in a few days this won't be talked about anymore except a few references here and there on talk shows. It'll be remembered similar to most public gaffs and by that i mean barely at all because 10 new ones will happen today.

First let me say that I do not like Paula Deen and I have no problem whatsoever with the fallout from her deposition.

Really? You're not bothered by Deen getting fired?

If she had said the 'n' word in public - on live TV, or especially if she'd said it on a recording and never bothered to edit it out - that would be an acceptable reason to get fired.

That isn't what happened.

This is just another example of "PC" run amok. A woman from Georgia in her sixties used the "N" word, we're not entirely sure when... and I'm supposed to be shocked?

What utter rubbish. I'm bothered by Deen getting 'fired' from everywhere she worked. In fact, if I were JCPenny, Sears, Lowes, Home Depot, Target, etc... I'd be drawing up a contract for her to sign that would put her products in my stores - after a brief, few month cooling off period, of course!

Do you really believe that?

I don't believe it would be eradicated, but I do believe it wouldn't be as pervasive and widely used.

She wasn't fired. Her contract was not renewed.

As for the endorsements, everyone who endorses a product using their "good name" is subject to similar scrutiny.

Tiger Woods, Michael Phelps, and the "Dude your getting a Dell" kid come to mind.

Good article IMO by Larry Elder.

I disagree. Elder is pandering to his readers.

Since he wants to point to Maher for comparison, why not defend Bill's remarks about 9/11 (which were the cause of his departure from ABC)?

What about Al Sharpton, what about Alec Baldwin? God you guys are such whiney people who are just dying to be persecuted in some way. No one who is qualified to be called "cracker" has ever been lynched. More likely to be doing the lynching. Paula Deen is a f'ing corporate spokesperson - it is up to the Corporation. If you guys want to start a boycott in her defense have at it. Otherwise your whininess is tiresome.

What gets lost in this outrage of Deen's "firing" is that this came out while she was being deposed. Her brother and she were being sued by a former employee for racism and sexual harassment.

Here's the accusations from that lawsuit:
quote:

In one alleged incident, Jackson states she asked Deen what servers should wear after being appointed to handle catering and staff for Hiers’ wedding in 2007. Deen responded, “Well what I would really like is a bunch of little n-----s to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties, you know in the Shirley Temple days, they used to tap dance around.”

quote:

In another incident outlined in the lawsuit, Jackson alleges Hiers stated that President Obama should be sent to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico so he could “n----r-rig it." He also allegedly printed out photos of women having sex with each other with a caption reading, “Why Gay Marriage Should Be Legal.”

It's easy to see why the Food Network and her sponsors would drop her when she is on the verge of losing this lawsuit.

First off al sharpton has Paula's back. Secondly anyone can accuse anyone of anything. Her court date hasn't come yet so until then I don't think anyone should have fired her.

re: If Paula Deen is out, what about Maher and Sharpton?

Here are some true facts , and this the first time I have commented on the P.D. fiasco , I was trying to allow all the facts to come forth first , which is my usual course of action.

The use of the N word is a faster way to say Negro.

Just like isn't is a faster way to say is not and aren't a faster way to say are not.

It was never the N word itself , but the sneer and hateful tone the word was said in by racist people.

50 to 150 years afterwards , the facts are you can talk to ANY OTHER race in a sneering , disrespectful and belittling way , without saying one buzz word , and still be a racist in your heart.

Likewise , you can say a BUZZ word , and have no ill will in your heart , and IMO , not be a racist

"The use of the N word is a faster way to say Negro."

No
It's not.
At all.

It's exactly the same length as the word negro.
