Did I mention killing?

A lot non killing type Muslims still have a definition of "right" that it seriously at odds with the concept of liberty.

I think violating someone's liberty is wrong.

This.

Get the government out of marriage altogether, leave it to the churches. I'm down with that.

Before what? After reading your homophobic diatribes, I'm ready to hear about your plans for succession or armed uprising.

Not ONE liberty is being violated.

Tax laws benefit every person in some ways, harm in others. For EVERYBODY.

Gay marriage is not about liberty. Only dolts think that stupid shite.

Are you about to tell me that they can all marry a person of the opposite sex? Cause, well..........weak.

You call it weak.

I call it truth.

Since the Christian founding of this country, marriage has been defined as 1 man and 1 woman.

I reject a group of people redefining an important, religious term to fit their unusual and incorrect behavior.

I would prefer that the country I live in support those things that are good and right, not sinful/wrong.

I don't want to live in a country where citizens think the above makes sense. How can you not see the danger in it? You should be afraid of such a concept also.

I mean, it's a great concept as long as 51% agree with your concept of what is not sinful.

But, if suddenly, a majority think some of what YOU want to do is "sinful" and you live in a country that allows the govt to stop such behavior, you're fricked.

A country that values LIBERTY is FAR superior than the one you describe because it is less dangerous to its citizens.

Federal. There is one set of Federal laws and gay Marriages deserve the benefits afforded them in all states. Just because a state doesn't recognize these marriages is irrelevant as federal law overrides this. (As least as far as federal benefits are concerned).

That idea sounds appealing, but laws are necessary to prevent ridiculous consanguinity/age of consent laws popping up across the nation. Some people would marry their eight year old first cousins if we let them.

You won't win any more elections if something like this actually comes to fruition...

attacking religion

And you know things like forcing churches to marry and threaten tax exempt status. That would be political suicide for the democrats.

Do I believe that's what going to happen here? Hell no. But don't act like the democrats can do something like that and survive unscathed. And I'm saying that as someone who fully supports gay marriage.

There should one set of laws re marriage throughout the country. This I'm married in one state but it doesn't count in another is crazy.

re: Gay lobbys next target:: benefits in all 50 states`

quote:

Since the Christian founding of this country,
You see. There's your problem.

I'm actually not going to argue with you that this was a primarily Christian nation at the outset. I'm on board with you there.

But, we are a nation that VOTES and SHOULD believe in Liberty. Since, like it or not, there is no such thing as a nation with a static never changing population, handing the govt the power to determine what behavior is "OK" only sounds good in a snapshot.

It starts to look like arse when you realize that you being in the majority isn't necessarily a permanent situation.

This is why valuing liberty is so damned important. Govt is loathe to give up power in an area once it's been acquired. IE, had we never been stupid enough to hand govt power in the marriage arena, we wouldn't even be chatting today. But, we did. See where it got us?

EXPANDING that concept to one where govt supports with is "right and non-sinful" is a pretty fricking scary concept unless you can be ONE HUNDRED PERCENT CERTAIN that you'll never be on the short end of that stick.

This is just like the " why can't I marry my dog?" argument that's used against gay marriage.

Dude. I simply meant it would have to be consenting adults.

An absence of a marriage license requirement wouldn't suddenly invalidate statutory rape or child abuse!!!

Nah. Admittedly, the "dog" argument is about the shittiest one out there.

But yeah. I'm pretty sure that the absence of a marriage license isn't going to make anyone think fricking 8 year olds is OK.(well, other than the nutjobs who think it is) THAT would still be criminal.
