Gay lobbys next target:: benefits in all 50 states`

quote:

Gay rights lobbyists plan to use their victory at the Supreme Court to push legislation that would ensure married same-sex couples are eligible for federal benefits in all 50 states.

LINK

quote:

But the groups said their victory was incomplete because it’s not clear from the court ruling if married gay couples would lose their benefits if they move to one of the 37 states where gay marriage is illegal. That means another major lobbying battle is at hand for groups on both sides of the marriage debat

You see, it never ends.

quote:

That means lobbyists for gay and civil rights groups can go on offense, which they plan to do with a campaign for the Respect for Marriage Act. The bill would fully repeal DOMA and ensure that “state of ceremony” takes precedence over “state of residence” when the government decides whether a gay couple is eligible for tax breaks, entitlement benefits and other federal programs

step by step by step...

Why on earth would you have an issue with this?

Seriously. This is NOT a "force the state to recognize"issue. This is simply a clarification that FEDERAL benefits are the same no matter what.

This is really very reasonable.

It's about equal rights...you know the ones given to them by the constitution...

Now, every individualized person, group, sect, entity is guaranteed everything their little heart desires.

Because the constitution says so.

No. They're guaranteed the that what the law allows for one full grown adult, it allows for all full grown adults.

I disagree with federal benefits being paid to same sex couples.

I also believe it is a mistake for our government to rule against the will of the people to support a deviant and sinful lifestyle.

I believe it is a huge mistake to equate homosexual marriages with normal marriage between 1 man and 1 woman.

I think the radical gay lobby has their sights set on attacking religion. Its later down the road, but its coming.

When you marry your first cousin and then move to a state where such marriages are prohibited, you don't lose your benefits and you're still married under the law of the new state of residence. It looks to me like the court left a lot of unfinished business.

Why shouldn't they? Seriously

What does a pair of gays getting married do to negatively affect you in any way whatsoever?

IMO, I think the govt should completely get out of the Marriage business and all taxes implications associated with marriage should be abolished.

Makes sense. There is no constitutional authority for the federal government to refuse recognition to a valid state marriage.

They may be in the case of a polygamous marriage.

Noted.

The will of the people does not extend to an ability to single out ANY group of people for NOT being allowed what others are. You also can't keep fat people from marrying even though, quite obviously, being fat is a result(in most cases) of behavior.

If they do, I'll back YOU over them.

Correct. But, they did believe greatly in liberty and a pretty big key to liberty is the right to do what one wants as a consenting adult if it doesn't infringe upon another. Alas, we have MANY MANY MANY laws that violate liberty. But, that's another thread.

I think your line of thinking is short sighted and fails to consider where all of this is heading as long as we continue accepting each additional demand.

I would prefer that the country I live in support those things that are good and right, not sinful/wrong.

Are you about to tell me that they can all marry a person of the opposite sex? Cause, well..........weak.

If you're going to say, they can get married to whomever they want, but not get state recognition, I'm actually on board with that. I want ALL marriage licenses GONE!

But, I aint gonna win that one. Since I'm not gonna win it, then, if the state INSISTS on saying people who want to get married must get a state license, they state should have ZERO say over whom you pick.
