Now the Gibson raid makes sense

quote:

Interestingly, one of Gibson's leading competitors is C.F. Martin & Co. According to C.F. Martin's catalog, several of their guitars contain "East Indian Rosewood," which is the exact same wood in at least 10 of Gibson's guitars. So why were they not also raided and their inventory of foreign wood seized?

Grossly underreported at the time was the fact that Gibson's chief executive, Henry Juszkiewicz, contributed to Republican politicians. Recent donations have included $2,000 to Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., and $1,500 to Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn.
It makes you go hmmmm, doesn't it?

Maybe Martin didn't falsify documents to import the wood in a prohibited form. The wood itself can be imported freely if it's in a prescribed state of manufacture. Gibson cut corners and got caught. So no, it doesn't make me go hmmmm.

An allegation Gibson refutes. Unfortunately, the truth will never be known since it didn't go to trial. We can only speculate.

This kind of thing didn't just recently start happening. With the exception of using a SWAT team, it has been going on for a very long time. I'm not making excuses for it either. Plain and simple...it's partisan politics.

ETA: I'm just guessing but there's a good chance that the owner of Gibson pissed the wrong person off. If it wasn't legal, it would probably be criminal.

I don't recall stories of Bush 2.0 targeting the businesses of supporters of his political opponents.

It only took a couple of minutes to go to Open Secrets and see that Juszkiewicz also donated multiple times to Jim Cooper, a Democrat.

This conspiracy theory fails.

I can't either but I wouldn't put it past any of his support staff. It happens in EVERY administration. Maybe Carter didn't do it...

...I don't know...but politics is dirty business.
