Six elected to LSU Athletic Hall of Fame

Story from LSUSports.net

quote:

Five former LSU standouts and a former LSU coach have been elected to the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame, the school has announced.

New inductees to the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame are legendary men’s basketball coach Dale Brown, first-team All-America and Olympic baseball pitcher Kurt Ainsworth; two-sport basketball and track standout Frank Brian; national champion diver Ashley Culpepper-Gluck; three-time All-American gymnast Amy McClosky-McGinley, and All-American volleyball setter Daniela “Dani” Reis.

The six newly elected honorees will be formally inducted into the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame later this year on a date to be announced.

shouldn't there be separate mens/womens HOF's?

jmo, but Title IX kind of dilutes it a bit, is a volleyball setter, whatever the hell that is, really on par with a Cannon, Casanova, Shaq, K. Faulk, etc.?

re: Six elected to LSU Athletic Hall of Fame
yes. in her sport, she is. she was great one, one of the greatest to ever play the position in NCAA history.

maybe do a bit of fact checking before spewing your sexist bull shite.

quote:

Reis lettered in volleyball at LSU from 1989-92, establishing herself as the finest setter in school history. She was named All-American three consecutive years by the American Volleyball Coaches Association and led the Lady Tigers to back-to-back Final Four appearances in 1990 and 1991.

She was named All-SEC in each of her final three seasons and earned SEC Tournament MVP honors as a freshman in 1989. She still holds the SEC and LSU records for most assists in a career with 6,379 and she ranks fourth in league history while holding the LSU record for most assists in a single season with 1,701. She also ranks ninth in NCAA history in career assists.

Not all members of the HOF are equal but they all contributed to the success of their teams.

btw, a setter is the one that sets the ball for a spike.

not sexist, just my opinion, and in my observation, it's easier to climb the athletic pyramid as a female, because there are so few that even give a shite a participating, or get grossed out by rampant lesbianism that exists in most womens' sports, and other similar factors, not sexist, just an intelligent, experienced observation

Pete Maravich should be an honorary member of HOF. They give away honorary degrees don't they?

obviously, since you know what a setter was.

does it really hurt you that badly that there are females at LSU that are great at their sports, who have made all-american lists, won national titles, both individual and team, etc.? they give LSU great publicity. it's the same thing that happens in men's sports.

do you really think females who want to play a sport won't simply because there are dikes that play with them? i'd love a source on a few high profile former female athletes who have said that.

and if there are a few, then they probably quit because they weren't good enough.

The rule should be amended so that you can still get in but posthumously or something like that. Not sure if PP7 will ever get his degree but if not that shouldn't be a barrier forever because he absolutely belongs in the LSU HOF at some point.

If she was a very good volleyball setter yeah. Not to mention not everyone in the HOF is equal. That champion diver won more championships that Casanova, Shaq, and Faulk combined.

He was named All-Southeastern Conference in basketball in 1942-43 and again in 1946 after returning from the war. He led the Tigers in scoring in 1943 with a then-school record of 17.7 points per game and was second in the SEC in scoring in 1947. He was named to the SEC All-Tournament Team in 1947. Brian also participated in the 1943 SEC Track Championships in four events.
