Mayor-Elect of Jackson MS wants to remove Columbus' discovery of US from history

link

We can debate whether Columbus was the first, but this is an ominous sign of things to come for Jackson. Lumumba has faced disbarment on many occasions for inappropriate conduct, and is considered a radical even by many black leaders. He has a very checkered past, and still believes in reparations to this day. Pray for Jackson (even though they will get what they deserve).

edit: I would put discovery of the Americas in title, but it wouldn't fit.

quote:

"Columbus didn't discover America. America wasn't lost, Columbus was," Lumumba said. "I'm just talking about accurate history and that should not be offensive to anybody."

quote:

According to Lumumba, people from northern Africa had been traveling to the North American continent years before Columbus did in 1492.

What about the vikings?

The Vikings have too light of skin color for him to give them any credit at all.

I guess technically since "Afircans" left Africa during the great migration and traveled east over the land bridge and got here firs he is correct.

I'm really stunned this could happen. Him being elected. Really, they might as well wall off the city. This guy has potential to be the worst mayor in American history. No hyperbole either.
