? for Civil War buffs ... La. Tigers

We all know that LSU took it's name from the Louisiana Tigers in the Civil War.

Today I was reading an article about art exhibits in the WSJ re: CW. I found this:

Apparently, it's the La. Tigers losing. Does anyone know the La. Tiger Win-Loss record in the CW?

You can Google it under La. CW history. The Tigers were mostly from New Orleans and South La., they were a crazy bunch of drinkers and wild fighters. The North and Western La. soldiers mostly fought around Shreveport, the Red River Campaign, and East Texas. My direct ancestors fought in the Red River Campaign. The La. Tigers fought some in the Eastern battles too,in the Virginia area.

They may have also been dealing with off the battlefield suspensions.

This painting is of their defeat in Pennsylvania. I had no idea they made it that far north. The painting was commissioned right after the war and sits in a Penn museum.

They did fight under Jackson's command & he was shot by his own men.

I'm not sure how this thread relates to politics.

It's probably better to put History threads in the OT.

Of course, it's up to the poster, but, if we keep discussing the La. Tigers here in PT, somebody will want to discuss the issue of whether LSU should change the nickname to something less controversial.

The LSU Press thanks you!

My grandfather's uncles were with Co. I, 9th, Louisiana Infantry, which were part of the Louisiana Tigers. They were from St. Tammany Parish; both were wounded and captured, and later paroled, at Antietam. One lost his leg while the other returned to battle in Ogden's Cavalry.

No, it's not.
1. The OT is inhabited by morons. I'd rather go to the food board.
2. War history is about policy. Do you understand the connection between policy and politics?
