Shit, so, I'll for sure be paying the annual fee on the preferred.

How much you think it takes for them to waive that fee?

That amex that givs 6% cash back on groceries, 5% pen fed for gas, citi forward for restaurants (5 point per $ spent, but the redeem rates turn that 5 points into a hair over 3% on restaurants), and a almost any travel card that gives 2% on travel.

Points spread over multiple programs is not ideal to me. Ive decided to go all in with Chase. THEN use the 1:1 transfer into the various travel partners as i see fit.

It helps me save mentally I guess putting in all on one. The math sides with my example. But, I understand, that's not always the best option.

Yes. 5% back all-the-time.

Companies pay to promote cards. Also, boa is the worst customer service bank in history.

re: top 3 credit cards

I use 2 travel cards. I have the Citi Platinum AA card since they are a good airline to fly from Hawaii to NOLA on. Although, I would be open to a better card if someone has recommendations?

Also, the card I really like is my SPG (Starwood Preferred Guest) Amex. You can stay at great Starwood hotels for travel or their points go 1:1 for most airlines. And if you take 20,000 SPG points to an airline, you will get 25,000 air miles.

I'm thinking about this gas card you guys have been talking about or maybe one of the groceries cards.

I am going to give my two cents for a few items discussed here.

UR points are far more valuable than any airline or hotel rewards points unless you are getting 4x-5x more points for the transfer. Remember when you use UR points for hotel stays or flights its like you used cash to the company you are staying or flying with.

Penfed beats that card you have listed hands down

Do you regularly fly AA? What benefits does the card give you? Remember a platinum Amex will give you access to the Admirals Club (AA) or Sky Club (Delta) even if you are not flying with them

I'm confused as to what your stance is. Every site I visit says the best strategy to use UR points is to transfer them into the airline program of choice once you confirm award availability. All say that using UR points through Chase's portal is less value.

Maybe the argument hinges on if you know what you're doing when booking award travel through the airline. But that's the advice out there, to transfer out of UR to airline then book. Maybe you agreed with that but I did read this while waking up.

re: top 3 credit cards

If I would have moved my points to Delta (which takes some finagling) I would get around 50,000 sky miles. That's enough for two round trip tickets if you can find them for the lowest award tier. So 2 flights was the most I could get.

However if I use my UR points to book a flight I get a bonus which makes my points worth $625. So I booked 2 flights and a rental car with the same amount of points I would have been able to just maybe been able to book 2 flights on.

And on these flights I get the segment credits / mqm miles so it makes it even better for me.

If you use them for just the cash back I guess it makes sense to convert them. But I'll never use them for anything other than flights, hotels, or car rentals.

That's a common thing now with almost every card. Just trying to help you out. Majority have online "malls."

Oh no, I'm not doing cash back either.

I think the real issue now that I think about it is for first class/business flying.

As I stated, any blog I have ever read promotes taking UR points and moving them into your frequent flier program of choice, and then booking. But also, most of these people are booking first/business class tickets to squeeze "more value" per point than just booking coach, so maybe that is the situation.

I've seen little to no one on blogs or flyertalk promote booking through the Chase portal. But I haven't really worked the numbers myself, just taken the prevailing wisdom of others.

I don't have status and probably never will, and usually I am a cheapskate (coach to India in August).

But I'd like to have my ducks in a row for a first class trip to an exotic honeymoon destination in the future.

Whatever you do I recommend Visa. I had my mastercard number stolen 3 times within a 2 year period. Visa has a great fraud protection department they call you right away.

Amex is king, but too many small places and places abroad dont take it so i love love love my visa, I have the united one, i use it to make all my purchases for work everyday, unreal the points im racking up

So, approximately $35 a month? You can do better.
